What does a weekend technical do?

A Weekend Technical is a professional who provides technical support and services during weekends, often in IT, broadcasting, or event production environments. Their responsibilities may include troubleshooting equipment, maintaining systems, and ensuring smooth technical operations outside of regular business hours. Weekend Technicals are essential for organizations that operate continuously or have events during weekends, as they ensure any technical issues are promptly addressed. This role may require a broad knowledge of various technologies and excellent problem-solving skills.

What does a typical weekend look like for someone in a weekend technical role, and how does the work schedule differ from standard weekday positions?

In a Weekend Technical position, you can expect your primary work hours to be during weekends, often covering shifts that extend into evenings or nights to ensure continuous technical support. The role typically involves troubleshooting urgent issues, performing maintenance, and supporting end-users or systems while many weekday staff are off. This schedule allows for more autonomy and can mean handling a broader range of technical challenges independently. Collaboration often occurs remotely with on-call colleagues or through shift handovers, and strong communication skills are important for smooth transitions between teams. The unique schedule can also offer flexibility during the week and opportunities to gain experience managing critical incidents.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend technical support specialist, and why are they important?

Familiarity with ticketing systems, remote desktop tools, and knowledge base platforms is commonly required. Strong communication, patience, and multitasking abilities help you resolve issues efficiently and maintain user satisfaction during off-peak hours. These skills ensure reliable technical support coverage, minimize downtime, and uphold service quality when regular staff may not be available.

We are seeking a versatile, hands-on Technical Writer to join our team on-site. In this dual-focus role, you will bridge the gap between engineering and marketing for our aftermarket towing and trailer product lines. You will work directly with subject matter experts to create highly accurate installation manuals and compelling marketing collateral.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Writing & Documentation

  • Work directly with subject matter experts in our on-site facility to validate and document installation procedures.
  • Author clear, step-by-step guides for various products including trailer hitches, brake controllers, trailer jacks, and electrical wiring kits.
  • Collaborate with engineering to translate 3D CAD models, exploded views, and wiring schematics into user-friendly layouts.
  • Manage documentation lifecycle using authoring tools and content management systems, ensuring version control and accessibility.

Cataloging & Marketing Content Support

  • Support the content roadmap for new product launches and marketing initiatives.
  • Translate complex technical specifications into engaging customer-facing copy for product catalogs, packaging, sell sheets, and digital media.
  • Ensure all technical and promotional materials align seamlessly with company brand guidelines and tone.

  • Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite (specifically InDesign and Illustrator for catalog layouts) and standard technical authoring tools.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site and safely interact with physical vehicles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field (equivalent hands-on industry experience also valued).
