Employer & Industry UsageUsed in industries with weekend operations like manufacturing, IT, or mediaCommon across various industries needing flexible schedules

The Weekend Technical Writer and Part-Time Technical Writer roles share similar credentials and flexible work environments. The main difference lies in scheduling: Weekend Technical Writers specifically work on weekends, often for industries with weekend shifts, while Part-Time Technical Writers may work during weekdays or weekends with more varied schedules. Both roles suit those seeking flexible, non-full-time positions in technical communication.

What are the main challenges of working as a weekend technical writer, and how can they be managed?

Weekend Technical Writers often face the challenge of collaborating with team members who primarily work weekdays, which can lead to delays in feedback or access to subject matter experts. To manage this, it's helpful to establish clear communication channels and set expectations for asynchronous collaboration. Additionally, weekend writers may need to be more self-directed and proactive in gathering resources and meeting deadlines. Adapting to a quieter work environment can also be an advantage, allowing for focused writing time with fewer interruptions.

What is a weekend technical writer?

A Weekend Technical Writer is a professional who creates, edits, and updates technical documentation, such as user manuals, guides, and online help files, specifically during weekends. This role is often part-time or contract-based, catering to organizations that require documentation support outside regular business hours. Weekend Technical Writers typically have strong writing skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly. They may work remotely or on-site, depending on the employer's needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend technical writer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Weekend Technical Writer, you need strong writing, editing, and research skills, often supported by a degree in English, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with documentation tools like Microsoft Word, Adobe FrameMaker, or MadCap Flare, and experience with content management systems, are typically required. Excellent time management, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly are standout soft skills. These abilities ensure the creation of accurate, user-friendly documentation that meets deadlines and supports organizational goals, even during non-traditional work hours.

Job description

Service Writer (aka Customer Experience Pro)

Kia of Lincoln | Lincoln, NE
Brand-New Dealership Coming Soon!

Kia of Lincoln is on the lookout for a detail-loving, people-first Service Writer to join our growing team! If you’re great with customers, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and can translate “my car is making a weird noise” into something technicians understand—you might be our perfect fit.

As a Service Writer, you’ll be the friendly face and clear communicator between our customers and our service department, keeping things running smoothly from check-in to check-out.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Greet customers with confidence, positivity, and a genuine desire to help

  • Listen carefully and gather details about vehicle concerns (even the vague ones)

  • Create clear, accurate service orders for our technicians

  • Communicate service recommendations, timelines, and estimates in a way customers actually understand

  • Coordinate schedules to keep the shop moving efficiently

  • Keep detailed records of services and customer interactions in our system

  • Follow up with customers to ensure everything was handled right

What We’re Looking For
  • Previous experience as a Service Writer or in customer service (preferred)

  • Strong communication skills—you’re comfortable talking to everyone

  • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a busy environment

  • Attention to detail (the little things matter here!)

  • Basic automotive knowledge is a plus—but we can train the right person

  • Comfort using computers and dealership software

Service experience preferred

Why You’ll Love Working Here
  • Competitive pay with room to grow

  • Supportive, team-first environment

  • Ongoing training and development

  • Employee discounts on vehicles and services

  • Opportunity to grow with a brand-new, multi-million-dollar Kia dealership

Be Part of Something BIG

We’re building a brand-new Kia of Lincoln dealership, opening summer 2026, and this is your chance to be part of the foundation. Start now at our temporary facility, help shape the culture, and grow with us into our state-of-the-art showroom.

If you’ve got the drive, the ambition, and the passion for helping people—this could be the next big step in your career.

Apply today and grow with Kia of Lincoln!
