Overview
Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
This position is located in Milan, Ohio in support of a high-energy aerospace test facility on a government site.
Responsibilities
The Systems Engineer is responsible for overseeing all activities related to the Facility systems. This role ensures the successful planning, design, development, testing, and integration of systems infrastructure, including hardware and software components. The position requires strong skills in managing requirements, documentation, system configurations, and production transitions while providing technical support and troubleshooting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • System Design and Integration
    • Plan, design, develop, evaluate, test, and integrate systems infrastructure, including hardware and software as part of the V&V process.
    • In collaboration with subsystem leads, identify gaps in verifying system code compliance and functionality from individual system testing.
    • As part of an SE team will generate IST plans to address gaps in individual subsystem testing.
    • Will identify build schedule conflicts and sequence testing to accommodate build schedule for each system.
  • Requirements Management
    • Capture, analyze, and translate customer requirements into technical specifications.
    • Define system and product requirements, including mechanical, electrical, and software performance and reliability standards.
  • Documentation and Configuration Management
    • Create and maintain programmatic and technical documentation to support efficient planning and execution.
    • Manage and document system configurations and oversee transitions into production environments.
  • Project Implementation and Support
    • Ensure successful implementation of projects and provide post-project end-user support.
    • Provide integrative engineering functions to drive cohesive system operations and robust, safe designs across system boundaries at a facility level. These include driving ICDs, Capability assessments & alignment, Overall Facility CONOPs, Site Layout, Facility-wise FMECA, Facility Operation Restrictions, Site-level hazard analysis and boundaries, security considerations and tracking of valuable post-IOC facility improvements.

NATURE OF POSITION CHALLENGES
  • Select and adapt plans, techniques, designs, or layouts. Contacts personnel in related activities to resolve problems and coordinate the work.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and integrates the technical work along with the HTF team.

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS
  • Does not normally provide direct supervision to others . May provide technical direction and organizing workload within Systems Engineering IPT.

RESOURCES IMPACTED
  • Assignments must be completed using available allocated resources in a timely manner to meet project cost and schedule requirements.

Qualifications
  • Education & Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in: Electrical Engineering, , Aero/Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in systems engineering or infrastructure design, or project management.
  • Technical Skills
    • Proven experience in planning, designing, and integrating complex hardware and software systems.
    • Strong understanding of system architecture, configuration management, and production deployment processes.
    • Ability to capture and translate customer requirements into actionable technical specifications.
  • Preferred Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Proficiency in technical documentation and configuration management tools.
    • Familiarity with system performance and reliability standards.
  • Certifications (Preferred)
    • Certifications such as Systems Engineering Professional (SEP) are highly desirable.
  • Soft Skills
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Visual and physical contact with test system hardware and installed data systems. Multiple workstation assignments (office, test facility, control room, laboratory, shops, etc.). Transportation of notebooks, drawings, forms, sensors, etc. required. Ability to hear normal conversation. One eye (minimum) correctable to 20/20.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work is accomplished in an office, control room, in and around test facility buildings, and within facility test chambers. Transportation is required between these work areas as well as trips to the client or user's facility. Some work areas are high in noise. Ability to work with other personnel in a group that is Team Oriented. Must be able to accept and work within established policies and procedures pertaining to company rules and regulations.

EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASK
  • Desktop/laptop computers utilizing Microsoft office suite software including Word and Excel.

CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE
  • Regular daily attendance is required to maintain office effectiveness. Some overtime may be required.
