Overview

Large Loss Property Claims Manager Objective

To manage all functions of the Property Specialists unit necessary to provide superior customer service by the prompt and efficient handling, control, and proper disposition of large and/or complex claims. To monitor the corporation's property policies and procedures under the direction of the Director of Property & Liability Claims. To aid in the assessment and adoption of Best Practices and Industry Benchmarks to continually improve customer service. To act as a liaison with other divisions.


Responsibilities

Large Loss Property Claims Manager Responsibilities

Coordinate, manage, and supervise the handling of large and/or complex property/casualty claims to have a significant effect on the overall profit picture of the company. Provide quality service to the insured and aid in the risk selection and retention of business by maintaining an effective service operation.

Maintain a high level of proficiency in insurance law, specifically as it relates to property and casualty claims. Keep abreast of court decisions as they impact arson, fraud, property and subrogation claims.

Assist in the determination and interpretation of policy coverages of property claim files to ensure the proper handling according to company policies and procedures. Read, comprehend, evaluate, adjust, and supervise property claims for payment following the company procedures to include verification of policies and coverage, authorization of bills, estimates, depreciation and settlement of claims within approved limits.


Qualifications

Large Loss Property Claims Manager Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree required with focus on insurance and/or business administration preferred, or equivalent experience may be considered.

Completion of, or current enrollment in, insurance coursework such as AIC or CPCU required.

Minimum six to eight years in claims field work required, with emphasis on property contracts, construction practices and arson/fraud investigation preferred.

Proven knowledge of claims procedures, insurance policy coverages and legal defense.

Effective writing, keyboarding, telephone and analytical skills required.

Must have excellent communication, customer service and strong leadership skills, and ability to deal with people of all levels in all divisions.

Must have access to high speed Internet at home.

Must possess a valid driver license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred

Minimum two to three years supervisory experience, large loss handling and/or litigation experience preferred.

Teaching skill for claims technical training preferred.

Note: This is a hybrid work from home position (within Michigan), requiring one day per week in the Farm Bureau Home Office located in Lansing, Michigan. May require some evening and weekend hours.
