Orange Beach City Schools
Job Title: Bus Driver
Reports to: Director or Designee
Job Goal: To enable each student, through safe and efficient transportation, to take full advantage of curricular and extracurricular activities offered by the school system
Qualifications:
  • Holds a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Holds or able to obtain a valid Alabama commercial driver's license with school bus driver (S) and passenger endorsement (P), pass and maintain a ALSDE School Bus Driver Certification, an Alabama Bus Driver DOT physical and a drug test
  • Must be insurable under the liability / comprehensive insurance carrier of the Board
  • Maintain a personal and job-related driving record that meets the insurance providers criteria for liability insurance for the Board
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board might find appropriate and acceptable
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Provides a safe and orderly environment while transporting students
  • Obeys all traffic laws and observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses
  • Maintains a valid state commercial driver's license with passenger endorsement
  • Notifies supervisor within seventy-two (72) hours of any personal vehicle citations
  • Maintains discipline when students are on the bus and reports unruly students to the administration
  • Maintains a clean bus
  • Follows the assigned bus route/schedule
  • Performs pre-trip inspection before operating the bus to detect mechanical defects
  • Performs post-trip inspection after operating the bus to detect mechanical defects
  • Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness on the route
  • Transports only authorized students
  • Discharges students only at authorized stops
  • Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips
  • Reports all accidents and completes required reports
  • Assists in promoting high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work connected areas
  • Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner
  • Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays when necessary
  • Maintains ethical standards and confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law
  • Demonstrates physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities and essential functions
  • Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system
  • Supports and complies with school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations
  • Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by supervisor(s)

Terms of Employment/Salary: 9 month (182 Days) 4-Hours / Non-Exempt / To be determined, commensurate with local salary matrix and experience.
Evaluation: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
