The YMCA is seeking a dependable, safety-focused Bus Driver to support our Afterschool Program. This position is responsible for safely transporting children from designated schools to YMCA afterschool program locations each weekday.
The ideal candidate is punctual, responsible, enjoys working around children, and is committed to providing a safe and welcoming experience for every child.
Schedule
Monday-Friday
2:00 PM-3:30 PM
There may be some variance in the schedule for half-days.
This is a part-time position supporting the YMCA's weekday Afterschool Program. Consistent attendance is essential because the position provides daily transportation for enrolled participants.
Essential Functions
  • Safely operate a YMCA bus or designated vehicle to transport children from assigned schools to YMCA afterschool program locations.
  • Follow an established daily transportation route and schedule.
  • Ensure children are safely accounted for when boarding and exiting the vehicle.
  • Follow all YMCA transportation procedures and applicable traffic and safety regulations.
  • Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly vehicle.
  • Immediately report vehicle concerns, accidents, incidents, or safety issues to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintain appropriate behavior and safety expectations for children while they are being transported.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with children, YMCA staff, school personnel, and families as needed.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures related to child safety and youth protection.
  • Complete required transportation records, logs, and other documentation.
  • Participate in required YMCA trainings and staff meetings as applicable.
  • Serve as a positive role model and uphold the YMCA's values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

  • Must meet all applicable age and licensing requirements for operating the assigned YMCA vehicle.
  • Valid driver's license and appropriate driving credentials required.
  • Acceptable driving record required.
  • Ability to successfully complete required background checks and screening.
  • Must meet all applicable YMCA, state, and insurance requirements for transporting children.
  • CPR, First Aid, and other required certifications must be obtained and maintained as required by the YMCA.
  • Previous experience driving a bus, passenger vehicle, school transportation vehicle, or similar vehicle is preferred.
  • Experience working with children or youth is preferred.
  • Must be dependable and able to consistently report to work on time.
