Weekend Property Management primarily involves overseeing rental properties, coordinating tenant needs, and managing property-related tasks during weekends. Property Maintenance Technicians focus on hands-on repairs, maintenance, and technical work on properties. While both roles support property operations, the former emphasizes management and coordination, whereas the latter emphasizes technical maintenance skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend property manager?

To thrive as a Weekend Property Manager, you need strong organizational skills, basic knowledge of property maintenance, and experience in customer service, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant certification. Familiarity with property management software (like AppFolio or Buildium), lease documentation, and scheduling systems is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to handle emergencies calmly are standout soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure efficient property operations, tenant satisfaction, and rapid response to weekend issues when full-time staff may not be available.

What are some common challenges faced by weekend property managers, and how can they be addressed?

Weekend property managers often handle urgent maintenance requests, tenant move-ins or move-outs, and unexpected guest issues during peak times. Since many vendors and support staff may be unavailable on weekends, strong problem-solving skills and proactive communication are essential. Building a reliable list of emergency contacts and setting clear expectations with tenants and owners beforehand can greatly reduce stress and ensure smooth operations during weekend shifts.

What is a weekend property manager?

Weekend property managers are professionals responsible for overseeing residential or commercial properties specifically during weekends. Their duties include handling tenant requests, managing maintenance issues, conducting property inspections, and ensuring the security and smooth operation of the property while the primary manager may be off-duty. Weekend property managers are essential for properties that require round-the-clock attention or have high tenant activity during weekends.

Job description

Who We Are

R&R Realty Group is a leading commercial real estate company in Des Moines, Iowa, with more than 40 years of experience and over 11 million square feet of office, retail, multifamily, and warehouse properties across Iowa and Nebraska.

But what we're most proud of is our people. We believe great properties start with great relationships—with our tenants, our customers, our vendors, and each other.

If you’re looking to join a collaborative team where your work makes a visible difference every day, you’ve come to the right place.

What You'll Do

As a Property Services Specialist, you'll work closely with a Commercial Property Manager to help create a great experience for our tenants while supporting the day-to-day operations of a portfolio of properties.

No two days will look exactly the same. You might spend part of your day helping a tenant with a request, coordinating with a vendor, preparing for a tenant event, checking on a property, or helping resolve an issue.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Build positive relationships with tenants, vendors, prospective clients, and other customers through friendly, responsive service.
  • Serve as a welcoming presence for tenants and visitors and help make their experience at our properties exceptional.
  • Partner with the Commercial Property Manager on day-to-day property and facility management needs.
  • Assist with tenant move-ins, move-outs, meetings, property inspections, and other tenant activities.
  • Coordinate services and requests such as package delivery, dry cleaning, grocery delivery, floral arrangements, guest parking, janitorial services, and transportation.
  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers and help monitor service contracts and performance.
  • Communicate with tenants and internal teams regarding property needs, service requests, and other issues.
  • Help plan and coordinate tenant events and property activities designed to build community and strengthen tenant relationships.
  • Enter and maintain accurate information in our time tracking, work order, purchase order, and invoice systems.
  • Monitor purchase orders, contracts, and budget information and communicate issues or variances to the Property Manager.
  • Provide administrative and organizational support to the Property Manager and property management team.
  • Look for opportunities to improve the tenant experience and strengthen customer relationships.
  • Take on other projects and responsibilities that help our properties and tenants succeed.
What We're Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Friendly, approachable, and genuinely enjoys helping people.
  • Organized and able to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Comfortable communicating with a variety of people.
  • Proactive and willing to jump in and solve problems.
  • Detail-oriented and dependable.
  • Comfortable working independently while also being part of a team.
  • Customer-service minded and focused on creating a positive experience.

Commercial real estate experience is not required. We value strong customer service, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills and are willing to train the right person on the property management side of the role.

What It Takes to Join Our Team
  • Associate degree and 1–2 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in customer service, hospitality, property management, office administration, facilities, event coordination, or a similar field is a plus.
Why R&R Realty?

At R&R, a career is more than a job. We want our employees to feel connected to the work they do, the people they work with, and the communities we serve.

We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid holidays
  • Rent and daycare partner discounts
  • Access to our beautiful wellness facilities throughout the Des Moines area
  • Employee engagement and wellness programs
  • Opportunities to learn, grow, and get involved in our local communities

Most importantly, you'll join a team that values collaboration, relationships, and having fun while doing meaningful work.

Sound Like You?

If you’re someone who enjoys helping people, staying busy, solving problems, and being part of a team, we’d love to hear from you!

Apply today and tell us why you think you'd be a great fit for R&R Realty Group. Please include a current resume with your application.
