Job description

Summary:

Provide overall management direction for existing projects and develop new business opportunities relative to a particular client, group of clients, geographical area or type of project.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize and staff key field positions with assistance/input from Senior Project Managers and upper management
  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of company policy
  • Initiate and maintain liaison with client and subcontractors to facilitate construction activities
  • Monitor/control construction through administrative direction of on-site Superintendent to ensure project is built on schedule and within budget; investigate potentially serious situations and implement corrective measures
  • Represent company in project meetings; assist in strategy meetings, etc.
  • Manage financial aspects of contracts (fee payment, rental equipment, income/expenses, etc.) to protect companyโ€™s interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with client
  • Supervise the work of the Superintendent and crew as well as the operations administrative staff
  • Comprehends, teaches and implements Blum Best Practices
  • Regularly reviews the site with the Superintendents for compliance to the project safety plan, stressing a zero tolerance for unsafe work practices and addresses any issues that arise immediately
  • Participates in the Blum Strategic Plan
  • Leads by example:
      • Productive hours on the job
      • Regularly participates in personal training and education
      • Is punctual, honest and responsible when dealing with customer, partner and Blum employee issues
  • Initiate challenges to the superintendents, foremen, crew members and the operations administrative staff to be:
      • More productive
      • Thoroughly trained
      • Safety conscious of self and others
      • Be a team member


Qualification Requirements

  • Requires a four year engineering degree or equivalent combination of experience and training/experience plus (five or more years) experience/knowledge of construction, design, finance management required


  • Must be able to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance
  • Thorough knowledge of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activities vital; superior communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.) skills essential
  • Advance understanding of cost accounting, construction technology and working knowledge of Excel and Word
  • Excellent communication, organization and supervisory skills essential, as well as the ability to motivate work force


Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to sit or stand and walk for extended periods of time with the occasional ability to stoop or kneel
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Vision abilities for this position include close vision as well as distance vision
  • Position requires the willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel. Position may require evening and weekend hours, as well as the occasional overnight trip
  • Ability to repetitiously use hands and fingers to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard
