One of ten departments in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, English offers a range of undergraduate majors and concentrations, minors, three masters programs (MA, MFA, and MSTC), as well as one joint PhD in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media (CRDM). Essential Job Duties
The Department of English at North Carolina State University invites applications for one full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Linguistics. As a faculty member, you will contribute to our undergraduate major and M.A. concentration through teaching, research, and service.
The area of specialization is open; however, we are particularly interested in candidates specializing in either:
  1. corpus linguistics, with a focus on syntax, morphology, or the lexicon; or
  2. experimental sociolinguistics and/or experimental psycholinguistics.

PhD in relevant field by August 2027

Demonstrated excellence in teaching, along with a strong record of research and scholarly publication.

Preferred Qualifications
PhDs in related disciplines are encouraged to apply; however, the role includes teaching foundational courses in linguistics.
Experience in, or a commitment to, community outreach and engagement.
