What is a weekend position?

Weekend positions are jobs that require employees to work primarily on Saturdays and Sundays, or during weekends. These roles are common in industries that operate outside of traditional weekday hours, such as retail, hospitality, healthcare, and customer service. Weekend positions can be full-time or part-time and often appeal to students, individuals seeking supplemental income, or those with weekday commitments. They may involve the same duties as weekday roles but are scheduled to meet increased demand or provide continuous service throughout the week.

What are some common challenges faced in a weekend position and how can they be managed?

Weekend positions often require employees to work during peak business hours, which can mean higher customer volumes and a fast-paced environment. Balancing these demands with personal commitments or a weekday job can also be challenging. To manage these challenges, effective time management, strong communication with supervisors regarding availability, and proactive self-care are essential. Many organizations provide support through team collaboration and clear scheduling, helping weekend staff stay organized and engaged.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a weekend position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a weekend position, you generally need reliability, time management, and the relevant job-specific skills or experience required for the role. Familiarity with scheduling software, point-of-sale systems, or other industry-specific tools may be necessary depending on the type of weekend work. Strong communication, flexibility, and problem-solving abilities help individuals adapt to varying workloads and customer needs during off-peak hours. These skills and qualities ensure smooth operations, customer satisfaction, and effective teamwork when working outside standard business hours.

ASSISTANT SOCCER COACH FOR CHILDREN AGES 2-5 | WEEKEND POSITION | NO SOCCER EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Soccer Shots Westchester is hiring an energetic, dependable, and enthusiastic Assistant Coach to help lead fun and engaging soccer programs for children ages 2–5.
Position: Part-Time Assistant Youth Soccer Coach
Pay: $18 per hour
Schedule: Saturdays and Sundays, approximately 8:30 AM–12:00 PM
Location: Westchester County, NY
Employment Type: Part-time, seasonal
This is a great opportunity for someone who
  • enjoys working with children
  • likes to be active
  • is looking for part-time, weekend work
  • wants to make a positive impact
No soccer experience is required—we provide training and support. We’re looking for someone who brings positive energy, follows direction, works well as part of a team, and helps create a safe and encouraging experience for every child.
Once assigned to a season, coaches are expected to work their scheduled sessions each week throughout the season. This position may be available for one season or continue across multiple seasons based on performance, availability, program needs, and mutual interest.
What You’ll Do

As an Assistant Coach, you will work alongside a Lead Coach to deliver high-energy, age-appropriate soccer sessions. You will help children build confidence, develop foundational soccer skills, and have fun in a positive and supportive environment.
Responsibilities include:
  • Assist the Lead Coach during soccer sessions for children ages 2–5
  • Encourage and engage children using positive, developmentally appropriate coaching techniques
  • Support class management, transitions, and activities
  • Help maintain a safe, organized, and encouraging environment
  • Set up and break down coaching equipment
  • Follow the Soccer Shots curriculum and direction provided by the Lead Coach
  • Communicate professionally with families, school staff, and team members
  • Arrive on time and prepared for every scheduled session
What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is:
  • Energetic, patient, and enthusiastic
  • Comfortable working with young children
  • Dependable and able to commit to the full assigned season
  • Available to work both Saturdays and Sundays from approximately 8:30 AM–12:00 PM
  • Able to follow direction and work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Punctual, responsible, and professional
  • Comfortable being active and working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Able to reliably travel to coaching locations throughout Westchester County
Previous experience in coaching, teaching, childcare, camps, education, recreation, or other youth programs is a plus, but not required. Soccer experience is helpful but not required.
Opportunities for Growth

Assistant Coaches who demonstrate strong reliability, leadership, coaching ability, and a positive connection with children may have the opportunity to be considered for a Lead Coach position in a future season.
Why Join Soccer Shots?

We provide training, ongoing support, a fun and active work environment, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in children’s lives. Strong performers may have opportunities to continue coaching in future seasons and grow into Lead Coach roles.
If you are dependable, energetic, and excited to help young children learn and have fun through soccer, we encourage you to apply!
Expected Hours: Approximately 5–7 hours per week
