Position Summary
The City of Three Rivers Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Police Officer position. MCOLES certification is required; however, the City will sponsor qualified non-certified candidates through a MCOLES-approved police academy.
Under general supervision, a Police Officer performs professional law enforcement duties to protect life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. This position requires knowledge of modern policing principles, including crime prevention, investigation, and community policing techniques.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Enforce federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
- Respond to calls for service including criminal, traffic, and emergency incidents
- Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations
- Prepare reports and maintain accurate records
- Engage in community policing and public interaction
- Safely operate department vehicles, firearms, and other police equipment
- Exercise sound judgment under stressful and emergency conditions
Minimum Qualifications (Required at Time of Hire)
- MCOLES certified or certifiable
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Michigan Driverโs License
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position
Preferred Qualifications
Associateโs Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field
Hiring Process and Conditions of Employment
Selected candidates must successfully complete the following:
- Physical agility examination
- Written examination
- Oral board interview
- Criminal background check
As a condition of employment, finalists must also pass:
- Psychological evaluation
- Medical examination
- Drug screening
Compensation and Benefits
Certified Police Officer
This is a full-time union position with the following starting wages:
- $54,892 annually (starting)
- $57,675 after six (6) months
- $60,653 after one (1) year
- $63,174 after eighteen (18) months
- $67,927 after two (2) years
Wages subject to change per union contract.
Benefits include:
- MERS Defined Benefit Pension (B-3 Plan)
- 2.25% multiplier
- F50/25 and F55/15 early retirement riders
- 10-year vesting
- 7.4% employee contribution
- Vacation:
- 90 hours after one (1) year
- 200 hours after fifteen (15) years
- Thirteen (13) paid holidays, including a floating birthday holiday

- Single employee contribution: $154.42
- Family contribution: $308.85

Non-Certified Police Officer (Police Recruit โ Academy Sponsorship Provided)
Non-certified candidates will be hired as non-union Police Recruits and sponsored by the City of Three Rivers to attend and complete a MCOLES-approved police academy.
- Police Recruit wage: $18.00 per hour while attending the academy
- Upon successful completion of the academy and MCOLES certification, recruits will transition to the Union Police Officer Role and pay scale.
Full Time Police Recruits receive the same excellent benefits package outlined above, including pension, paid holidays, vacation accrual, and health insurance.
