Job Summary:
The Mowing Worker I is responsible for performing of a variety of park maintenance tasks, including turf maintenance, landscape maintenance, basic horticulture maintenance and forestry.
The Parks Maintenance Worker I, Mowing Crew is on call as needed. This is an at-will position.
Hired applicants subject to mandatory Pre-Employment Physical and Drug Screening.
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Preference given to candidates with previous related experience.
  • Preference given to candidates with previous experience in related fields, such as turf, landscape, playground, horticulture, maintenance.
  • Preference given to candidate with a valid Drivers' License.
  • Must have flexible availability up to and including weekends.
  • Working knowledge of hand tools.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Employee will perform a variety of park maintenance work such as, but not limited to: litter picking, weeding, raking, sweeping, cleaning, mulching, janitorial duties, refuse collection, snow removal, and other functions as assigned.
  • Employee must document hours and work performed.
  • Employee must demonstrate and support the Park District's mission statement, vision, and core values.
  • Employee is responsible for manual labor up to and including, but not limited to: digging, mulching, weeding, line trimming, painting, and raking.
  • Employee must perform turf maintenance tasks such as line trimming, push mowing, cleaning debris, and routine maintenance on small engine equipment and mowers.
  • Employee must perform ornamental horticulture maintenance which includes, but is not limited to: planting trees, pruning, watering, flower bed maintenance, and other horticultural tasks as assigned.
  • Employee must clean and maintain any and all park pavilions, restrooms, and other buildings as assigned.
  • Employee must maintain playgrounds, turf, ballfields, and other park facilities and amenities.
  • Employee must maintain the trails, which includes, but is not limited to debris removal, grading and renovation.
  • Employee may operate equipment and/or district vehicles to provide a variety of maintenance-related tasks on various District roads, parking lots, and sidewalks. Equipment may include, but is not limited to: edger, sod cutter, rototiller, aerator, blowers, mowers, small hand-equipment, bunker rakes, and utility vehicles.
  • Employee is responsible for the operation of Park District vehicles, tractors, grounds equipment and implements.
  • Employee is responsible for conducting daily inspections and completing basic maintenance as assigned including, but not limited to: playground and park inspections, washing and cleaning vehicles, and checking fluids.
  • Employee must perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Streamwood Park District's safety program.
  • Employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Employee must perform all other duties as assigned.
