What are Weekend Packaging Designers?

Weekend Packaging Designers are creative professionals who specialize in designing packaging materials specifically during weekends or on a part-time basis. Their primary role is to conceptualize and create visually appealing and functional packaging that aligns with branding and marketing objectives. They often collaborate with marketing teams, printers, and product managers to ensure that the packaging meets both aesthetic and practical requirements. This flexible role may suit freelancers, students, or individuals seeking supplemental income while applying their design skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Packaging Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Packaging Designer, you generally need a strong background in graphic design, creativity, and knowledge of visual branding, typically supported by a degree or coursework in design or a related field. Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and understanding of packaging production processes are standard requirements. Excellent time management, attention to detail, and effective communication help designers meet tight weekend deadlines and collaborate with clients or teams. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering high-impact, accurate packaging solutions that align with brand standards and project timelines.

What is the difference between Weekend Packaging Designer vs Part-Time Packaging Artist?

Both roles require design skills but differ mainly in work schedule and environment.

How does a Weekend Packaging Designer typically collaborate with other teams to complete projects on tight deadlines?

As a Weekend Packaging Designer, you'll often work closely with marketing, product development, and production teams to ensure packaging designs are completed efficiently over the weekend. Communication is usually handled through project management tools, emails, or virtual meetings to align on brand guidelines and feedback. Since deadlines are often tight, being proactive in asking questions and clarifying requirements is key. Flexibility and strong organizational skills help you manage multiple projects and ensure your designs are ready for review by the start of the business week.

Description:

Weโ€™re looking for a Lead Packaging Designer who is passionate about beauty, obsessed with the details, and excited to shape how our products show up on shelf and in consumersโ€™ hands. This role will oversee the design, development, and ongoing maintenance of packaging across the Not Your Motherโ€™s portfolio, ensuring every product reflects the brandโ€™s visual identity while meeting production, regulatory, and retail requirements.

Reporting to the Creative Director, this role will partner closely with Innovation, Marketing, Product Experience, and Creative Operations to bring new launches to life while evolving our existing packaging ecosystem. Itโ€™s not just about what we do here at Not Your Motherโ€™s; itโ€™s about how we do it too. We cherish values that spread LOVE FOR ALL by acknowledging that everyone is unique, and weโ€™re all in this together. We encourage you to take the lead by MAKING YOUR MARK, because we love to do things differently, and we continue to grow by SHAKING THINGS UP and embracing change with courage.

We put our heart into haircare, and it all starts with you!
