Job description

Amentum is seeking a 1st shift Heavy Equipment Operator - GMT III Building Maintenance Technician for our Building Maintenance team in Greenville, SC!
  • Typical hours: Monday - Friday; 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Hours may vary based on customer demand.
  • Must be willing to work overtime when required. May be required to work holidays and weekends

The Heavy Equipment Operators is responsible for providing advanced level of expertise in responding to heavy equipment work orders, troubleshooting, and providing preventative maintenance on heavy equipment. This position will manage and operate machinery such as tractors, excavators, loaders, backhoes, cranes, track hoes, skid steers, and forklifts to perform tasks including earthmoving, grading, excavation, and material handling .
Responsibilities
  • Operating heavy machinery safely and efficiently to complete customer work orders or projects.
  • Performing routine maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on equipment.
  • Specialized site mowing and bush hogging during warm months.
  • Demolition and recycling of various metal products using a track hoe.
  • Training and mentoring less experienced operators.
  • Communicating effectively with supervisors and team members to coordinate tasks.
  • Adhering to safety protocols, wearing protective gear, and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Assists in performing and responding to work orders associated with heavy equipment, buildings and building equipment
  • Inspects major equipment and/or operating systems and takes corrective actions as necessary.
  • Ensures all appropriate mechanical operations, standards, controls, and specifications, are maintained at a high level of quality. Systems/Equipment to include: tractors, excavators, loaders, backhoes, cranes, track hoes, skid steers, forklifts, pumps, fans, plumbing, etc.
  • Works within the context of a team and at times with minimal supervision
  • Ensures excellent customer service and safe work environment
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma/GED or demonstrated equivalent experience (relevant certifications or licenses for operating specific equipment are preferred.)
  • 5+ years' experience in the field of heavy equipment operation as well as building maintenance and plumbing. Construction experience is a plus.
  • Must have hands-on experience in the maintenance, repair and operation of heavy equipment and building systems.
  • Proven experience operating heavy machinery in construction, mining, or utility projects.
  • Knowledge of equipment operation, maintenance, and safety standards.
  • Experience working with and understanding Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Friendly, cooperative, customer service-minded attitude; team player.
  • Attention to detail and excellent follow-up skills.
  • Ability to read and understand repair manuals and drawings.
  • Ability to analyze problems, recommend solutions, and initiate repairs.
  • Ability to apply proper safety practices and follow procedures while performing maintenance tasks.
  • This is an on-site job with no travel required.

  • This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules outside of the normal M - F schedule. Overtime rules may apply to extra work schedules.

Physical Requirements:
  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.
  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.
  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.
  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.
  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.
  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.
  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to operate machinery and perform labor-intensive tasks in various weather conditions.

Work Environment:
  • The heavy equipment operator typically works outdoors and sometimes within the plant for equipment and material movement.
  • This role may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and physically demanding tasks. Operators must maintain situational awareness to prevent accidents, especially when working near slopes, buried utilities, or other hazards.
  • This individual will also sometimes provide building maintenance services for our customer's buildings on a large multi-building campus.

Special Requirements:
  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.
  • Ability to work at heights with company supplied safety equipment.
  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Compensation Details:
$28.00 - $32.00
