A Weekend Operator is responsible for overseeing operations during weekends, ensuring that equipment, processes, or services run smoothly. Duties may include monitoring machinery, troubleshooting issues, maintaining production schedules, or handling customer inquiries, depending on the industry. This role is common in manufacturing, customer support, and facilities management. Weekend Operators are essential for maintaining business continuity outside standard work hours.

What does a weekend operator do?

Weekend Operators typically work during weekend shifts, which may include day, evening, or overnight hours depending on the facility’s operational needs. While teams may be smaller on weekends, collaboration remains essential, often involving close coordination with other operators, supervisors, and sometimes remote support staff. Operators are expected to be proactive in communicating equipment status and promptly addressing any issues that arise. This environment fosters independence as well as teamwork, and employers often provide structured handoff procedures to ensure smooth transitions between shifts.

Job description

Looking for a dependable, self-directed part-time Operations Manager to help oversee daily operations and support our team.

This is a flexible hybrid position combining some administrative work, on-call management, and periodic on-site hours. This is not a traditional 9–5 management position. The right person will have flexibility while being reliable and responsive when the business needs management support.

Responsibilities:

Serve as the primary point of contact for staff, mainly afternoons and weekends

Respond to employee call-outs and arrange coverage or cover shifts when necessary

Handle routine staff questions and operational issues independently

Be available by phone/text during designated management coverage

Maintain a regular but flexible on-site presence, particularly during afternoons and weekends

Assist with hiring, interviewing, onboarding, training, and staff management

Coach employees and address routine performance or policy issues

Handle customer concerns requiring management assistance, by phone or email.

Monitor day-to-day operations and ensure policies and procedures are followed

Identify maintenance or facility issues and coordinate routine service needs

Escalate significant personnel, safety, financial, or facility issues to ownership

Schedule:

This position offers substantial flexibility. Many responsibilities can be handled remotely and without fixed office hours.

The Operations Manager will be expected to maintain periodic on-site presence during weekday afternoons and weekends and serve as the primary management contact during weekend operating hours.

This does not require being physically present every weekend. However, the manager must be reasonably available to respond to staff issues by phone and able to come on-site or provide coverage when necessary.

What We're Looking For Reliable, organized, and able to work independently

Comfortable supervising a primarily young, part-time staff

Confident making routine management decisions without constant direction

Calm and practical when unexpected issues arise

Comfortable enforcing policies and holding employees accountable

Professional and discreet with confidential employee and business information

Comfortable with basic business technology, email, POS systems, and scheduling/communication apps

Experienced in management, supervision, hospitality, retail, recreation, family entertainment, or another customer-facing environment preferred

A degree in business management preferred.

Compensation Up to $25/hour, depending on experience and responsibilities.

Flexible schedule, significant autonomy, and a combination of remote and on-site work.
