Job description

Chelsea Cannabis Co. is a CAURD-licensed adult-use dispensary at 104 7th Avenue in Chelsea, Manhattan. We opened in early 2025 and grew significantly in our first year — not by discounting or outspending, but by building a store people want to come back to. Curated product. Real relationships. A knowledgeable team. Open late every night.

THE ROLE

This is a GM-track role. You'll run the store's operations day to day, and just as importantly, you'll build the systems the store runs on — the checklists, dashboards, inventory logic, training programs, and reporting that make a store work without heroics. We run like an early-stage startup: move fast, wear multiple hats, plenty of situations without a playbook. We need someone who finds that interesting — and whose instinct in those situations is to build the playbook, not just survive the shift.

You will not just execute someone else's process. If a process is missing, you create it. If a process is broken, you fix it and document it so it stays fixed.

Schedule: Full-time, full availability required, including evenings and weekends. On-site in Chelsea, Manhattan.

Compensation: $70,000-$120,000/year, based on success in the role.

WHAT YOU'LL BUILD AND RUN

Systems (the heart of the job): Design and maintain the store's operating systems — SOPs, opening/closing checklists, inventory reorder logic, shift handoff routines, performance dashboards. Use spreadsheets, software, and AI tools to automate what shouldn't need a human. Leave every process better documented than you found it.

On the floor: Own real-time standards; first call for staff questions, customer issues, decisions; coach budtenders in the moment; manage shift flow and floor positioning; execute open/close completely; hold compliance with zero shortcuts.

Inventory and compliance: Own inventory accuracy end to end — receiving, cycle counts, audits, discrepancy controls; stay aligned with NY OCM requirements; flag concerns immediately.

Sales and customer experience: Drive in-store selling and measurable revenue lift; hit targets while staying helpful, not pushy.

Back-office and money: Own register variance, cash handling, reconciliation; support financial reporting, payroll inputs, AR/AP, audit prep; understand store P&L.

Developing the team: Direct, useful, respectful feedback; onboard new staff with real training materials that you'll build; model the standard.

Leadership: Carry GM-level responsibility — hiring, scheduling, vendor coordination, compliance, full-store ownership.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR — HERE'S WHAT WE WEIGH

The best candidates cover most of these, not necessarily all:

Systems building (weighted heaviest): You have actually built operating systems somewhere — wrote the SOPs, stood up the dashboard, built the forecasting sheet, implemented the software, created the training program. You can point at a thing that ran without you after you built it. "Managed" and "oversaw" are not building.

Leadership that earned its scars: Led a team where you owned the outcome, not just the schedule.

Work ethic: Does it right when no one's watching, finishes what they start.

Adaptability: Adjusts when the plan breaks, steady under pressure, figures out what's not in the manual.

Inventory and compliance: Accurate counts, receiving, audits, discrepancy controls. Specific software is learnable.

Sales: In-store selling, hitting and beating targets, real comfort with customers.

Tech / AI fluency (a real plus here): We actively use AI and automation in how we run the business; you should be excited by that, ideally already doing it.

Marketing (a plus): Social media, brand and community campaigns, content.

EXPERIENCE WE VALUE

Above all: backgrounds where leadership and systems-building were the job — startups and small businesses you helped build, multi-unit or high-volume operations, logistics and fulfillment ops, roles where you designed the process rather than inherited it.

Cannabis retail experience is a genuine plus — we're a licensed NY dispensary and compliance fluency helps — but we've learned that time in a dispensary doesn't by itself teach systems-building. Show us what you built, wherever you built it.
