Operations Manager - Richmond Animal Hospital

Richmond Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to help lead and grow our locally owned, family-centered small animal practice.

We're looking for a proven leader with 5+ years of operations management experience and a track record of developing high-performing teams, improving processes, driving operational excellence, and fostering a positive, accountable workplace culture. Veterinary experience is preferred, particularly experience as a veterinary technician, but is not required.

At Richmond Animal Hospital, we're building something special.

We are a locally owned small animal practice committed to providing exceptional patient care while creating an environment where our team members feel supported, valued, and empowered to succeed.

We believe a strong team leads to strong care, and we're intentional about building a culture centered on collaboration, accountability, professional growth, and mutual respect.

Less than a year after transitioning to new ownership, we were honored to be a finalist as Best Animal Hospital/Clinic in the Seven Daysies, a recognition that reflects the dedication and commitment of our team.

We believe it's possible to work hard, provide exceptional service, support one another, and still maintain a healthy work-life balance. We want our team members to be present for their families, friends, hobbies, and the things that matter most outside of work.

Why We're Different

At Richmond Animal Hospital, we take great pride in supporting our community. For us, it's something we actively do year-round. Giving back is woven into the fabric of Richmond Animal Hospital through community sponsorships, charitable donations, volunteer efforts, rescue partnerships, fundraising events, and the launch of our own nonprofit organization through the Veterinary Care Foundation. Our commitment extends well beyond our hospital walls.

We're proud to be a locally owned practice that believes being a good neighbor is just as important as being a great veterinary hospital. We encourage our team to be part of that mission, including providing paid volunteer time, because caring for our community is at the heart of who we are.

The Role

We are seeking an Operations Manager who will serve as the operational leader of the hospital and a key partner to practice ownership. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building teams, creating systems, improving processes, and helping organizations grow. You will lead day-to-day operations, support staff development, improve workflow and efficiency, help recruit and retain great people, and ensure the hospital continues to deliver an exceptional experience for both clients and patients.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, a thoughtful leader, and someone who thrives on helping people succeed. You will play a central role in shaping our culture, strengthening our team, and helping guide the future growth of Richmond Animal Hospital.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Leadership

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the hospital
  • Develop and improve systems, workflows, and processes that support efficiency and service excellence
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures
  • Manage staff scheduling and operational coverage
  • Oversee inventory, purchasing, vendor relationships, and facility operations
  • Partner with ownership to support strategic goals and organizational growth
  • Support an exceptional client and patient experience across all areas of the hospital

Team Development & Culture

  • Lead, coach, and develop support staff
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and collaborative workplace culture
  • Support onboarding, training, and professional development initiatives
  • Help recruit, interview, and retain outstanding team members
  • Provide regular performance feedback, coaching, and mentoring
  • Promote teamwork, communication, and employee engagement

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and workplace safety standards
  • Maintain operational and regulatory documentation
  • Coordinate safety training and workplace safety initiatives
  • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and professionalism

Benefits Include

  • Health, Dental & Vision Insurance
  • 4 Weeks of Paid Time Off
  • 7 Additional Paid Holidays
  • 30 Hours of Paid Volunteer Time Off
  • 401(k)
  • Professional Development Opportunities
  • Pet Discount
  • Scrubs Provided
  • Community-focused events and staff/family gatherings throughout the year
  • Locally owned and operated
  • A culture that genuinely supports work-life balance

Pay: $65,000 - $85,000 per year

If you're looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact, help shape a growing organization, build an exceptional team, and be part of a locally owned practice that values its people, patients, and community, we'd love to hear from you.

Come help us shape the next chapter of Richmond Animal Hospital.
