Position Summary

The Controller serves as the operational leader of the Accounting Department and is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, timeliness, and effectiveness of Sundance Mountain Resort's accounting and financial reporting functions. This role leads the day-to-day accounting operation, oversees the monthly close process, maintains internal controls, coordinates audits and compliance activities, and partners closely with operational leaders across the resort. The Controller is a key member of the resort leadership team and works closely with the CFAO to support strategic financial objectives while ensuring strong accounting operations and financial discipline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily accounting operations and workflow coordination.
  • Oversee the monthly and annual close processes and ensure timely completion.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain integrity of the general ledger, reconciliations, and journal entry processes.
  • Provide leadership and support for AP, AR, transactional accounting, and accounting staff workflows.
  • Coordinate and manage internal and external audits.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and accounting procedures.
  • Support treasury operations, banking administration, and cash management activities.
  • Coordinate tax-related accounting support and compliance activities.
  • Support debt compliance, lender reporting, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Partner with the Financial Analyst on budgeting, forecasting, KPI reporting, and operational analysis.
  • Support ownership reporting and executive financial presentations.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and accounting workflow efficiency.
  • Support ERP/accounting systems administration and financial systems improvements.
  • Maintain organized accounting documentation and SOPs.
  • Serve as a financial partner to resort operational leaders and department managers.
  • Help reduce operational dependency on the CFAO by leading day-to-day accounting operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Leadership Profile

The ideal candidate is operationally strong, detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of independently leading accounting operations in a dynamic hospitality or resort environment. This individual should communicate effectively across departments, build strong operational relationships, and help create scalable and disciplined accounting processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. 5+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience preferred.
  • Hospitality, resort, food & beverage, or multi-department operational accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, financial reporting, and accounting operations.
  • Experience managing accounting close processes and audits.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct preferred.
  • Experience with Paylocity HCM preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Teams, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Benefits

Benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, paid time off, employee discounts on resort amenities, and season passes for employee and eligible dependents.
