Job description

Summary of Duties
Providedirect care to residents as needed in accordance with care plan applicable policies,procedures, and guidelines, and supervise daily nursing activities performed byLicensed Practical Nurses (LPN), Medication Assistants Certified (MAC), andCertified Nursing Assistants (CNA).
Essential Job Functions
1. Direct theday-to-day nursing functions of LPNs, MACs and CNAs on designated nursing unitsduring the assigned shift ensuring that care is rendered according to theresident's plan of care and facility policy, procedures and guidelines.
2. Provide residentcare to include but not limited to assessments, care planning, treatments,medications, interventions, communications, and other resident care activities accordingto the resident care plans and physician orders. Document the residents'response to the care consistent with applicable policies, guidelines andregulations.
3. Communicate withphysicians, Director of Nursing Services and other employees, as necessary,concerning the status of residents, any new admissions and activities on theshift. Report residents' condition and shift occurrences to oncoming staff.
4. Make rounds withphysicians as necessary and document care and treatment as indicated.
5. Review andtranscribe physician orders according to policy and ensure orders have beenexecuted.
6. Meet withresidents, and/or family members, as necessary. Report problem areas to the Supervisor.
7. Complete medicationpass audits and counts medication as assigned. Report any discrepancies to the Director of Nursing/Assistant Directorof Nursing.
8. Complete forms,communication records, and reports as required.
9. Coordinate residentactivities with other staff members and departments as indicated and informstaff of new resident admissions.
10. Reportall discrepancies, problems, and/or issues regarding resident care to the Directorof Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing.
11. Performother duties and responsibilities as directed by supervisor.
Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and licensed as a Registered Nurse - RN by the State of Alabama. One (1) year experience in a skilled nursing facility preferred.
Specific Requirements
1. Must possess a current, unencumbered license topractice as a Registered Nurse in this state.
2. Must possess and maintain current CPR certification.
3. Must possess computer skills and demonstrate theability to become proficient with appropriate software.
4. Must possess the ability to make independent decisionswhen circumstances warrant such action.
Physical Requirements for Essential Job Functions
  1. Must be able to move about intermittently throughout the workday
  2. Must be able to reach, bend, and/or stoop intermittently throughout the work day
  3. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met
  4. Must be able to push, pull, or move a minimum of 100 pounds utilizing proper body mechanics and assistance
  5. Must be able to walk/stand 75% of the day
  6. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
