A Duneland School Corporation student custodian is required to clean and sanitize all corporation facilities in a safe and lawful manner. This position has a highly responsible role in providing custodial services and dealing with students and staff on a regular basis. All custodians interact with individuals both inside and out of the corporation and therefore, must have the ability to present a professional and organized image at all times.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  1. Respond to requests of information and services in a prompt, efficient and friendly manner.
  2. Provide exceptional level of customer service to all students, community members, teachers, co-workers and other staff members. A custodian must assure these needs are met in a professional, friendly and timely manner.
  3. Observe safety and security procedures
  4. Uses equipment and materials to clean and sanitize properly
  5. All Custodial Service employees are required to attend all in-service training
  6. All custodians must accept delegated authority.
  7. Set-up, monitor and service special events arranged with the Duneland School Corporation
  8. Assist with custodial training and supervision
  9. Shampoo carpets
  10. Gym floor maintenance
  11. Locker repair
  12. Minor building maintenance and repair
  13. Assist with snow removal
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
  1. Demonstrate interpersonal skills necessary to deal tactfully and effectively with persons at all levels in order to develop and maintain productive relationships both inside and outside the corporation.
  2. Ability to learn new skills quickly and assimilate into daily work
  3. Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality both inside and outside the corporation
  4. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  5. Ability to multi-task with attention to detail
  6. Proficiency in the use of all Custodial Services equipment
  7. Demonstrate organizational and time management skills
  8. Recognize, analyze and offer solutions to problem situations related to daily work
  9. Ability to remain calm and professional during times of high stress
  10. All Custodial Service employees must transfer to other Duneland properties with impromptu notice.

Work Environment: This position typically works in facilities with a controlled temperature environment. Occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions may occur depending upon assignments.
Equipment: This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of all custodial equipment. A basic knowledge of operations concerning computers, printers, telephone systems, fax machines and copiers is required.
Hours: This position is typically expected to work an average of 3 hours per day 5 days week. Summer hours will be adjusted as per the Superintendent to assure adequate coverage throughout the summer period. Evening, weekend and holiday activities will be scheduled as necessary.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by all Duneland School Corporation custodians to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, climb or balance, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, twist, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Custodial Services employees are required to stand, be on feet, and move around for a full work shift.The employee is occasionally required to sit; crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
Ability to work using ladders, scaffolding, mechanical lifts and district vehicles. Ability to spend most of the work-day standing, lifting, and walking. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally move up to 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
