Job description

Position Summary
Branch Civil, Inc. is searching for a collaborative and driven Senior Estimator to join our well-established, growing company. The Senior Estimator must exhibit a thorough working knowledge of heavy civil and site development as related to all disciplines and phases of construction. This position requires the candidate to be a self-starter, have a strong work ethic, and to be committed to quality. The Senior Estimator reports to the Lead Estimator.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Performing quantity take-offs, pricing, scoping and bidding of construction projects.
  • Visiting the project site to develop a thorough understanding of the site conditions.
  • Develop a clear understanding of the project specifications and bidding requirements
  • Compose and manage both verbal and written clarification correspondence with the client
  • Developing relationships with customers, subcontractors, and suppliers through direct communication
  • Identifying constructability issues through the estimating process.
  • Identifying value-engineering alternatives and other opportunities to gain a competitive advantage.
  • Leading the estimating team through the estimating process on select projects.
  • Act as mentor to junior team members
  • Assessing site risks and develop plans to mitigate
  • Establish winning bid strategies

Duties/Responsibilities Cont.
  • Reviewing estimates with project managers, superintendents and other estimators to ensure project costs are accurately captured in the estimate
  • Present estimate and participate in bid reviews with senior management to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Assure compliance with MBE/DBE requirements of contract in bid process. Assure that all appropriate subcontractors have been solicited
  • Understand all safety, quality, and environmental standards and procedures and ensure appropriate costs are reflected in the estimate
  • Executing accurate, detailed and complete estimates.
  • Develop preliminary project schedule based on the information provided in the plans and specifications
  • Tracking and documenting historical data for future use.
  • Appropriately represent the company during client interactions and other meetings
  • Prepare preliminary budgets for projects won.
  • Perform new project hand-offs to effectively communicate the project scope, complexities, and estimate plan to operations.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Required Qualifications/Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • 10 years of experience in an estimating role in pursuits of $20M+.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a senior level estimating role
  • HCSS HeavyBid experience required.
  • Proficiency with Agtek earthwork software is required.
  • Strong math skills with a thorough understanding of geometry
  • Understanding of geotechnical information
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings.
  • Ability to anticipate and account for potential quality, safety, productivity and schedule implications in the production of the estimate.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction principles and capabilities of manpower and equipment.
  • Advanced understanding of bidding different contract types and the intricacies they present
  • Proven ability to manage multiple bidding projects at the same time
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to drive

Preferred Qualifications/Education:
  • Experience in estimating heavy civil projects over $100M preferred.
  • Design-Build Experience is desired.
  • Joint Venture bidding experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and Microstation is a plus

Compensation
Salary Min: $91,266
Salary Max: $156,470
Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.

Travel is estimated at approximately 20%. Occasional travel to other regions of the country and overnight stays.
