Job description

Semiconductor Journeyman Sheet Metal Mechanic

Overview:

CAM Industrial Solutions, a leader in industrial services and one of the fastest-growing privately held companies in Canada and the United States, is seeking a Journeyperson Sheet Metal Mechanic experienced in cleanroom / semiconductor environments to join our team. At CAM, we believe “good” is never good enough—we aim for excellence in everything we do. We're looking for individuals who share that same drive, take pride in their work, and thrive in a collaborative, high-performance environment.

If you are passionate about continuous improvement, teamwork, and making a meaningful impact, we encourage you to apply and become part of our forward-thinking organization.

Position Summary:

In this role, the JM Sheet Metal Mechanic will fabricate, install, and maintain sheet metal ductwork, air handling, and cleanroom enclosures for ultra-clean (high purity) airflow, chemical air distribution, and exhaust systems in semiconductor plants. You’ll work under Foreman / General Foreman guidance, collaborating with QA/QC, commissioning, and other trades to meet project specs, timelines, and quality expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read, interpret, and follow blueprints, shop and field drawings, 2D/3D models (isometrics) for cleanroom duct, air handling, and enclosure systems.
  • Fabricate, assemble, install, and seal sheet metal ductwork, plenums, transitions, boots, and cleanroom enclosures using appropriate methods (welding, riveting, sealing, structural framing).
  • Perform high-precision layout, cutting, bending, forming, and finishing of sheet metal components to meet cleanliness, tolerance, and airflow performance (including SMACNA / SEMI standards as applicable).
  • Ensure installation meets cleanroom classification requirements (e.g., minimal leaks, smooth airflow, minimized particle generation).
  • Carry out inspections, leak testing, sealing, QA checks, and participate in turn-over documentation (including as-builts, fabrication logs).
  • Perform daily safety checks, toolbox talks, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and conform to strict safety & cleanroom protocols (PPE, suit-up, gowning, etc.).
  • Collaborate with other trades, site management, and clients to coordinate installations, manage interferences, and maintain schedule integrity.
  • Maintain clean work areas consistent with high purity / cleanroom requirements; control contamination risks.

Qualifications:

  • Journeyperson Sheet Metal certification (Red Seal or equivalent) required.
  • Experience in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or similar high-purity environments dealing with cleanroom/air distribution / high-spec ducts.
  • Strong ability to read blueprints, isometric/3D models, HVAC / ductwork layouts.
  • Knowledge of SMACNA, SEMI (if relevant), NFPA, OSHA safety standards as applicable.
  • Skilled in welding, metal forming, sheet metal fabrication tools, proper sealing techniques.
  • Attention to detail, high standards around cleanliness and finish.
  • Experience with cleanroom protocols (e.g. gowning, contamination control) is a strong asset.
  • Strong communication, ability to work in teams and adapt to evolving project requirements.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in cleanroom environments, sub-fab and other controlled zones, and outdoor / fabrication shop areas.
  • Must wear cleanroom PPE (bunny suits, gloves, masks, etc.), adhere to gowning / protocol.
  • Physically demanding work: lifting, bending, climbing, working at heights, overhead work.
  • Frequent walking across site; exposure to noise, sometimes heat/cold depending on shop vs field.
  • May require extended hours, shift work, or weekend work to meet installation milestones.
