Job Summary:
The Inpatient Auditor supports the quality and development of the inpatient coding team through coding audits, education, and mentorship. This role has a primary focus on auditing coding accuracy, DRG assignment, and compliance while providing constructive feedback to coders. As proficiency is demonstrated, responsibilities expand to include onboarding, training, assisting with developing educational resources, and serving as a coding subject matter expert. The Inpatient Auditor collaborates with Coding Leadership, the Inpatient Trainer and Education Coordinator, and interdisciplinary teams to promote coding quality, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across the organization.
EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:
A minimum of 3 years of Health Information Management experience in an acute care environment performing inpatient coding with MS-DRG assignment required. A minimum of 5 years Inpatient Coding experience is preferred. Appropriate education or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis of three years of progressively responsible inpatient coding experience in an academic medical facility. Previous auditing, education, mentoring, or precepting experience preferred.
EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:
Associate Degree in Health Information Management or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management
LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:
Certified RHIA/RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CIC, COC or CPC. RHIA, RHIT, or CCS, preferred.
