Job description

Maintenance Technician I

Location: Tenneco - Blacksburg, Virginia

Department: Maintenance

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor

Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Maintenance Technician (Maintenance I) to support equipment reliability and facility operations within our manufacturing plant. This role is responsible for performing preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on a wide range of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. The Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in minimizing downtime and maximizing equipment efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine, preventive, and predictive maintenance on production equipment, machinery, and facility systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues in a manufacturing environment.
  • Replace or repair defective components, including motors, bearings, sensors, belts, gearboxes, valves, and conveyors.
  • Utilize tools and diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, torque wrenches, calipers, and alignment tools.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, equipment manuals, and work orders.
  • Assist in installation and setup of new equipment.
  • Document maintenance activities and parts usage in CMMS.
  • Respond quickly to breakdowns to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams on root cause analysis.
  • Follow all safety procedures including LOTO and OSHA standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training preferred.
  • 2-5 years of maintenance experience in manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
  • Experience with PLCs/VFDs is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Ability to work shifts, weekends, and overtime.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand and walk for extended periods (8-12 hours).
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Work at heights using ladders or lifts.
  • Manual dexterity for tools and equipment.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, and humidity.
  • Wear PPE including steel-toed boots and safety glasses.
