Library Assistant: Circulation

Nestled along the Fox River, the Kaukauna Public Library is a place where stories, history, and community flow together. As a Library Assistant, you’ll help bring this space to life: welcoming patrons at the service desk, checking materials in and out, issuing library cards, and assisting with reference, technology, and local history services. This is a wonderful opportunity for an organized multitasker who loves learning, public service, and a strong sense of community.
Schedule:
  • Monday-Thursday 4-8pm, Friday 1-5pm, and rotating Saturdays 8:45am-1pm.
What You'll Do:
  • Complete circulation reports.
  • Regularly checks the wander list for items not found on the pick list.
  • Assist at the service desk. This includes activities such as answering reference questions, issuing new library cards, filling and retrieving holds, providing technical support for patrons at computer stations or with eBooks, and more.
  • Check out and check in library materials.
  • Periodically empty the book drop.
  • Read and maintain order of assigned shelf section.
  • Ensure patrons adhere to library policies.
  • Use cash register.
  • Promote library services and programs.
  • Uphold confidentiality and privacy of patrons.
  • Adhere to the Library Bill of Rights.
  • Perform detailed services related to specific areas of service as well as other duties as assigned by supervisors.
What You'll Bring:
  • High school diploma, GED, or suitable educational background and experience.

  • Knowledge of the Integrated Library System software Polaris.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and remain focused in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of cash handling and cash register procedures.

  • Ability to correct the behavior of patrons in a polite and professional manner.
  • Fluency in more than one language is greatly valued.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry items from 5-50lbs.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, squat, and walk or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to complete repetitive motions and movement.
  • Ability to distinguish colors with full visual acuity.
Work Environment:
  • Desk-oriented, located in the Kaukauna Public Library.
  • Quiet to moderately quiet noise levels, depending on location and time of day.
Rate of Pay:
