POSITION SUMMARY
Under immediate supervision, provides prompt and cheerful service to library patrons, performs clerical and related library work, organizes and re-shelves library materials, and assists with other support tasks as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Performs circulation desk and drive-up window procedures, such as checking in and checking out materials, registering patrons, placing holds, and collecting fines.
  • Empties book drops, sorts and routes library materials.
  • Arranges returned materials on book carts.
  • Shelf-reads and straightens materials on the shelves.
  • Processes, withdraws, repairs or reconditions library materials.
  • Assists with library displays and programs.
  • Assists patrons with operations of library equipment.
  • Answers questions and refers patrons to appropriate personnel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the public and staff in person, by phone, and through email.
  • Ability to participate in and maintain a courteous and cooperative work environment, developing rapport with patrons, peers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to follow instructions and apply library policies as appropriate.
  • Ability to efficiently sort in alphabetic or numeric order and develop a working understanding of the Dewey Decimal System.
  • Ability to understand and apply technical knowledge to efficiently perform routine library procedures, use the library computer system, and file materials.
  • Ability to perform moderately heavy physical work to include bending, reaching, and crouching; pushing and pulling carts; and lifting and carrying materials.
  • Ability to maintain a regular work schedule and apply time-management skills.

SICK LEAVE
Leave is accumulated on a pro-rated basis to be equivalent to one (1) day per month based upon a full-time schedule. Hours are accumulated year to year with a pro-rated percent paid out upon retirement. Employees who are in their first 60 calendar days of employment are not permitted to utilize any leave, but upon completion of 60 days shall be credited with leave allowance from the date of hire.
WISCONSIN RETIREMENT
Employees of the City of New Berlin who work an average of 24+ hours a week are automatically enrolled in the Wisconsin Retirement System. The City and the Employee contributes to the pension. For further information see http://etf.wi.gov.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION (Section 457 Plan)
The City of New Berlin offers deferred compensation plans to allow employees to supplement their retirement income. Any amounts contributed are paid for fully by employee on a pre-tax or post-tax basis. The City offers two choices with VOYA or Wisconsin Deferred Compensation. WORKER'S COMPENSATION
Employees will receive worker's compensation benefits based on state laws.
DIRECT DEPOSIT
All employees are required to have their full payroll checks direct deposited in a bank or credit union of their choice.

VACATION
Part-time employees amount of vacation is based on the prorated amount of hours they are scheduled to work. For example, if a part time employee is scheduled for 20 hours a week. Then for the prorated amount it would be 20 hours divided by 40 hours x the vacation amount of hours for years of service. For example for 1 year it would be 20/40 x 96 hours (12 days) = 48 hours
