Job description

Summary Under close supervision of the Library Manager and Librarian, performs a wide variety of public, technical, clerical services and promotes library services. Benefits: vacation/personal sick leave, health benefits (medical/dental/vision),401k, short/long-term disability, 14 holidays Wage offer will be based on experience and will not exceed the mid-point of the salary/wage range. Employees may progress through the full salary range subject to their successful performan and annual budget approval.

Minimum Qualifications A high school diploma or GED equivalent and some general clerical work experience is required. Must be able to work evenings and Saturdays. Must possess strong customer service and communications skills and be detail-oriented.

Must be able to complete and pass an extensive background check. Examples of Duties Assumes operational responsibility for the library's daily operations in the absence of the Library Manager, Librarian and Library Technician, Assists in all library programs as needed and facilitates programs for the benefit and enjoyment of the Community. Presents library programming and services at multiple locations in the Community and represents the Library at Community Events.

Performs customer service and receptionist duties by staffing the circulation desk, checking books in and out, , shelving books, assisting patrons with computer help, creating new library cards, answering phones, creating documents, copying, filing, assisting in library events and programs, and various general office duties. Creates item records for materials cataloged using online computer system Prepares circulation desk, periodicals, counter, or other public service area for daily activity. Assists in performing bibliographic searches using a variety of resources including an on-line computer system as needed.

Physically processes books/materials by labeling, stamping, laminating, pasting, performs minor book repair and prepares materials for circulation. Provides assistance to the Library Video Production Assistant on a variety of video and film projects. Must be available to work during MUSD Fall/Winter/Spring Intercessions, Community scheduled events (i.e., Him-Dak Celebration, Masik Ta:s events, NARD, etc), weekends, and Monday thru Friday evenings sometimes until 8:00 p.m

Performs other related duties, as assigned. Other Requirements Working knowledge of basic office procedures and ability to use office equipment (fax, copy machine, etc.) Knowledge of the Ak-Chin Indian Community culture, customs and traditions. Skill in operating a computer (type 30-40 wpm) and related computer software applications, i.e

Windows, Word, and Excel. Skill in filing and sorting alphabetically and numerically. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and 10 pounds frequently and sit or stand for extended periods of time.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons and co-workers. Ability to shelf-read to ensure accuracy of shelved items. Ability to stand for up to one to three continuous hours per day while performing a variety of library duties.

Ability to reach overhead to retrieve books and able to bend and kneel to reach books on bottom-floor level. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to interpret and explain library policies and procedures to staff and patrons in a pleasant manner.

Possess strong interpersonal skills and experience working with children, adults and elders.
