Option Excavating Inc. is a locally owned full-service underground infrastructure installation company. We specialize in installing water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer main lines and services. We provide excavation, grading, hauling, and underground utility construction services to the municipal, petroleum, commercial, residential, gas, and industrial sectors throughout Alberta. We are currently seeking Excavation Labourers to join our growing team.

This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, are physically fit, and take pride in being part of a hardworking crew. As an Excavation Labourer, you will assist with underground utility installations, site preparation, grading, and general excavation work on projects throughout Alberta. If you have a strong work ethic, value safety, and enjoy working in a fast-paced construction environment, we encourage you to apply.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist operators, pipe layers, and supervisors with excavation and underground utility construction.
  • Perform hand digging around existing underground utilities and exposed services.
  • Assist with the installation of water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer mains and services.
  • Install bedding material, backfill trenches, and compact materials.
  • Grade, rake, shovel, and level materials as directed.
  • Load, unload, and move construction materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Install and remove trench boxes, shoring, and other excavation safety systems as required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work site.
  • Assist with equipment spotting and safely guide operators around personnel, utilities, and obstacles.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, plate compactors, jumping jacks, and other small equipment safely.
  • Perform daily housekeeping and help maintain equipment and tools.
  • Conduct field-level hazard assessments before beginning work.
  • Follow instructions from supervisors and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Promote and follow the company's safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required.


Position Requirements & Skills

  • Previous excavation, underground utility, or heavy civil construction experience preferred.
  • Experience working around excavators, loaders, dozers, and other heavy equipment is considered an asset.
  • Ability to safely work in and around open excavations and trenches.
  • CSTS 2020 is required.
  • Ground Disturbance and Confined Space certifications are considered assets. Training will be provided to the right candidate.
  • Strong work ethic with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Physically capable of lifting, carrying, digging, shoveling, kneeling, and performing demanding manual labour.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Reliable, punctual, and dependable.
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence is considered an asset.
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites throughout Alberta.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as required.
