Job Title: Production Labor / Calendering OperatorJob DescriptionThis role operates molds, presses, and calendering equipment to produce first-run and regular production parts in a timely and accurate manner with minimal supervision. You follow written procedures, recognize deviations from standard practices, and ensure materials meet exact specifications for sheet, roll, or layered products. Success in this position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with co-workers in a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and monitor calendering equipment to produce sheet, roll, or layered materials to exact specifications.
- Routinely use molds and presses in the production process to produce first parts and regular production parts with minimal supervision.
- Operate press machines to create parts using molds, ensuring consistent quality and adherence to specifications.
- Monitor material flow to ensure uniformity, smoothness, and absence of defects during production.
- Inspect materials using calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, and other precision instruments to verify thickness, length, and overall quality.
- Measure stock to ensure it meets required thickness and length before and during production.
- Place a variety of materials by hand into molds, on mandrels, or in build fixtures as part of the fabrication process.
- Clean and prime parts with appropriate chemicals and solutions as required by procedures.
- Weigh stock and scrap to be salvaged and track material usage and waste.
- Monitor individual production output to detect bad parts early and address defects promptly.
- Use production equipment and tools, such as calipers, scales, tape measures, and hand tools, on a regular basis.
- Read and interpret production orders, blueprints, and material specifications to complete assignments correctly.
- Document production data, including thickness readings, lot numbers, quality checks, and materials handling records, in accordance with company and ISO standards.
- Collaborate with quality inspectors and production supervisors to resolve material or quality issues.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, cleaning, and roll changes to keep equipment in good working order.
- Follow all safety procedures at all times, including lockout/tagout practices and proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including setup and cleanup at the start and end of each shift.
- Work cooperatively within a team environment and communicate effectively with co-workers and leads.
- Perform other duties as assigned by production leadership, including Working or Production Leads, Planners, Production Supervisors, and Module Managers.
Essential Skills- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs safely and repeatedly during the shift.
- Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
- Proficiency using hand tools to fabricate parts in a production environment.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude for operating production machinery and equipment.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure material quality, consistency, and defect detection.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools and measuring devices, including calipers, depth gauges, micrometers, and other precision equipment.
- Ability to monitor material flow and identify issues such as non-uniformity, surface defects, or other irregularities.
- Ability to read and interpret production orders, blueprints, and material specifications.
- Capability to perform routine machine maintenance, cleaning, and roll changes.
- Comfort working with chemicals, solvents, and industrial materials while following safety procedures.
- Ability to follow written procedures and recognize deviations from accepted practices.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with co-workers, quality inspectors, and production supervisors.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Combination of relevant education and experience considered in lieu of specific formal education requirements.
- Experience in a production line or manufacturing environment.
- Hand dexterity and fine motor skills for handling small parts and using hand tools.
- Experience with weekend or flexible scheduling in a manufacturing setting.
- Familiarity with ISO standards and production documentation practices.
- Experience using calenders, presses, or similar industrial machinery.
- Comfort working under variable environmental conditions, including temperature changes and exposure to fumes or dust, while maintaining safety practices.

Work Environment

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mcminnville, OR.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.30 - $19.00/hr.
