Job description

Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $18.32 - Midpoint: $21.97 (Hourly N4)


Department/Organization: 208124 - CCHS EMS


Normal Work Schedule: Varies; must be available to work evenings and weekends.


Job Summary: The Emergency Medical Technician provides out of hospital emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients, including non-emergency/routine medical transports to life threatening emergencies.


Additional Department Summary: Functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical oversight. Completes incident reports in a timely and accurate manner.


Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Must be licensed as an Emergency Medical Technician by the State of Alabama.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.


Skills and Knowledge: Ability to lift/push up to 200 pounds; this position will assist in the evacuation of sick and injured persons during an emergency. Working knowledge of the University of Alabama campus and surrounding area. Functional understanding of basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. Functional understanding of communications equipment, including telephone, 2-way radios, and recording equipment.
Excellent clinical, organizational, and administrative skills. Ability to communicate effectively with staff and health care professionals. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information and the requirement to follow HIPAA regulations at all times.
Ability to cope with stressful conditions. Ability to demonstrate tact, versatility, and adaptability. Ability to demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation and directional initiative. Working knowledge of data entry and Microsoft Office. Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making.


Preferred Qualifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR/AED First Aid certification, or ability to obtain upon hire.
