We are looking for a Lead Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic in New Orleans. Responsible for leading the maintenance team while actively performing maintenance and repairs on heavy mobile equipment.
Compensation: $32.00 to $37.00 per hour, depending on experience
Job Duties:
Technical and Hands-On Duties (80%)
- Perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy mobile equipment, including forklifts, cranes, and loaders
- Lead by example in conducting preventive and corrective maintenance tasks
- Interpret and utilize electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic schematics for troubleshooting
- Prioritize maintenance needs based on operational schedules and equipment availability
- Perform inspections to ensure compliance with HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental) standards. Determine in-house repair capabilities vs. the need for third-party vendor support
Administrative and Leadership Duties (20%)
- Schedule and assign daily work tasks using CMMS (Maximo)
- Track and follow up on purchase orders, inventory, and parts management
- Provide daily status updates to Asset Management and Operations teams
- Ensure documentation of all maintenance work orders and compliance reporting
- Mentor, coach, and support the development of maintenance team members
- Manage communication between operations and maintenance for scheduling needs
- Monitor and track KPIs such as equipment availability (target 80-85%), PM compliance, and downtime reduction
- Maintain safety, environmental, and ISO compliance in all activities
Qualification and Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Vocational or technical training in heavy equipment mechanics preferred
- 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance required; leadership experience preferred
- Strong technical proficiency in diesel engines, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Proficient in CMMS systems, preferably Maximo
- OSHA 30 certification preferred. Welding and forklift certifications are a plus
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and on-call emergencies
