How You'll Contribute to the Team:
The Housekeeping Supervisor will work under the supervision of the Operations Director coordinating and supervising all aspects of daily and periodic cleaning in a designated facility to include; inspection of living areas to ensure cleanliness; supervision of housekeeping personnel; determining appropriate staffing levels required for work projects; meeting with occupants to monitor/ensure standards of cleanliness; may coordinate setup for events.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
  • Plan the daily custodial activities within a designated building or group of buildings.
  • Supervise Custodial Crew Leaders, Custodial Workers, Laborers and other classified, temporary, or student employees engaged in custodial activities.
  • Ensure the maintenance of a minimum of an APPA Level 2 cleaning standard for the designated facility through supervision and leadership of such activities.
  • Cleaning of lobby and public areas by emptying trash, vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning glass to ensure neat and sanitary residential areas.
  • Cleaning of restrooms by emptying trash, mopping floors, cleaning fixtures, and supplying paper products to ensure sanitary and adequately supplied restrooms.
  • Cleaning of hallway areas by emptying trash receptacles and vacuuming to ensure a sanitary residential area.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies to ensure supplies are available when needed.
  • Maintain inventory of residence halls' linens and supplies for summer conferences to ensure supplies are available when needed.
  • Oversee the recycling program at each assigned facility making sure of proper adherence to standards of recycling set by such organizations as the National Recycling Coalition (NRC).
  • Assist in hiring and supervising summer cleaning crew by recruiting workers and by organizing work schedule according to the summer conference and campus events schedule.
  • Supervise and lead the unit turnover cleaning process.
  • Ensure appropriate training of staff, identify training needs, and develop and implement training activities.
  • Inspect assigned buildings and work areas regularly, including buildings cleaned by contracted employees to ensure proper cleanliness and sanitation standards are maintained.
  • Prepare electronic reports and presentations.
  • Act as liaison between departmental staff within facility and advise management of housekeeping needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Role Specific Requirements Include:
  • High school graduate.
  • Minimum of 8 years of housekeeping experience with five (5) or more years in a supervisory capacity required.
  • Experience managing multiple residential sites and teams at the same time is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a union environment strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with APPA cleaning standards preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office along with computer-based maintenance software.
  • Excellent oral communication skills; ability to interface with internal and external clients at all levels.
