Basic Job Functions:

The role of the Shift Millwright is primarily two fold. First, to be a great Nucor team member who demonstrates high levels of ownership in everything they do. Second is to ensure the success of the team by SAFELY performing Preventative and Corrective maintenance on steel mill equipment and systems as well as proposing and implementing solutions to challenges in the steel making process and business. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times. 

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Mechanical skills and fundamental knowledge
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical systems
  • 2 or more years in a steel mill
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
Detailed Selection Criteria:
  • Accountability & Dependability- Displays responsibility with work habits and has the ability to hold others accountable for desired results.
  • Initiative- Being proactive with seeking out work that needs to be done and being willing to take on responsibilities and challenges.

  • Maintenance Systems and Techniques- Knowledge of servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing equipment, systems, and processes.
  • Attention to Detail- Thorough in accomplishing tasks, no matter how small they may be, and taking care to make sure that expectations are met.
  • Communication Skills- The ability to give full attention to what others are saying and communicating information so that others will understand.
  • Problem Solving & Judgement/Decision Making- Identifying problems, gathering and reviewing relevant information, and weighing options to make informed decisions and take effective action.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in Rolling Mill & Melt Shop mechanical/electrical maintenance
  • 2-year degree in mechanical/electrical or related field
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
