How much do weekend engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 30, 2026, the average yearly pay for weekend engineer in California is $70,286.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $32,314.00 and $98,412.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How does the schedule and workload of a Weekend Engineer typically differ from standard weekday engineering roles?

Weekend Engineers usually work during non-traditional hours, often covering shifts on Saturdays and Sundays to provide critical support or maintenance when regular staff are off. This role often involves troubleshooting urgent issues, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring system uptime with minimal supervision. Collaboration is still key; Weekend Engineers regularly communicate with weekday teams to ensure seamless project handoffs and accurate reporting. Flexibility, self-motivation, and the ability to quickly adapt to unexpected challenges are important for success in this position.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Engineer, you need a solid background in engineering fundamentals, troubleshooting, and relevant technical qualifications such as a degree or certification in your engineering discipline. Familiarity with industry-specific tools, maintenance management systems, and diagnostic equipment is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to work independently under time constraints are essential soft skills. These abilities ensure efficient operations, rapid response to issues, and minimal downtime during critical weekend shifts.

What are Weekend Engineers?

Weekend Engineers are professionals who typically work engineering shifts during weekends, rather than standard weekday hours. They may be responsible for maintaining, repairing, or monitoring systems, equipment, or facilities to ensure continuous operation during off-peak times. Weekend Engineers are often employed in industries that require 24/7 coverage, such as manufacturing, IT, utilities, or facilities management. Their role is crucial for addressing urgent issues, performing preventative maintenance, and supporting operations when regular staff are not available.

Do project engineers work weekends?

Project engineers often work weekends depending on project deadlines, site requirements, and company policies. They may need to be available outside regular hours to coordinate with teams, oversee progress, or address urgent issues, especially in construction, manufacturing, or engineering projects.

What Does a Weekend Engineer Do?

A weekend engineer works part-time (usually on weekends and evening hours) to service equipment for various companies that they use in their operations. In addition to weekend shifts, some positions also require you to have on-call hours available on a rotating schedule with other engineers. Your responsibilities vary depending on the job and the company for which you work. For an IT company, you may service computer equipment, internet lines, and other technical equipment. In a factory position, you may work on production line equipment, such as conducting routine inspections and maintenance on equipment, ordering parts for replacement, and repairing broken or worn-down equipment.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior engineers in specialized fields such as petroleum, aerospace, or software engineering with extensive experience and advanced skills can earn $500,000 or more annually. High compensation often involves leadership roles, bonuses, stock options, or working in high-demand industries requiring advanced certifications and expertise.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A Weekend Engineer role typically does not pay $10,000 a month without specialized skills or experience. High-paying jobs that can reach this level often involve entrepreneurship, sales, real estate, or skilled trades, but they usually require relevant expertise, certifications, or a strong network rather than a formal degree. Most roles paying this much are performance-based or involve business ownership.

Both roles require similar certifications and are found in similar industries, but their work hours and job focus differ.

What's a good side hustle for an engineer?

A weekend engineer can consider side hustles such as freelance consulting, technical tutoring, or designing and selling digital products like CAD models or software tools. These options leverage engineering skills and often offer flexible schedules outside regular work hours.

Kids Ministry Director / Pastor (Pathway Kids) — Redding, CA

Pathway Church (Redding, Northern California)

Salary: $60,000–$82,000 (based on experience and fit)

May be eligible for ministerial housing allowance (as applicable)

Why This Role

Pathway Church is a 4,500+ member church in Redding, CA. Our Kids Ministry serves and disciples ~300 kids every week across Early Childhood and Elementary.

We’re hiring a Kids Ministry Director / Pastor to lead a healthy, scalable kids ministry with excellent weekend execution, strong volunteer development, clear systems, and intentional parent partnership.

Location: Redding, California

Redding is in Northern California with quick access to mountains, lakes, and trails. It’s not a major metro area, but many leaders and families love the lifestyle, space, and outdoor recreation.

Note: If you’re exploring relocation, we’re happy to discuss practical questions early (housing, schools, travel, schedule, and community).

What You’ll Lead

You will oversee Kids Ministry across:

  • Early Childhood (birth–pre-K)
  • Elementary (K–5th)

This is a high-responsibility role. We’re looking for a leader who combines:

  • Pastoral heart (discipleship, care, spiritual leadership)
  • Operational strength (systems, volunteers, reliable weekend environments)

What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)

A strong leader in this role will make measurable progress in:

1. Volunteer health and growth

  • Recruiting, training, scheduling, coaching, and retaining a strong volunteer team

2. Programming quality and consistency

  • Engaging, Christ-centered environments with dependable weekend execution

3. Safety and operational excellence

  • Strong systems for check-in, classroom coverage, child safety, communication rhythms, and admin processes

4. Parent partnership

  • Clear communication and practical resources that help parents disciple at home

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Development

  • Recruit and develop volunteers and leaders
  • Build a culture where volunteers feel equipped, supported, and valued

Programming & Discipleship

  • Lead engaging, biblically faithful weekend programming for kids
  • Ensure every environment is welcoming, organized, and spiritually intentional

Systems, Safety & Operations

  • Strengthen systems that reduce last-minute chaos and protect kids
  • Steward budgets, schedules, supplies, and ministry administration
  • Champion child safety policies and best practices

Parent Communication & Partnership

  • Establish consistent communication rhythms
  • Provide tools that reinforce discipleship at home

Qualifications

Required

  • Clear commitment to Jesus Christ, Scripture, and the gospel ? Alignment with Pathway Church’s beliefs: https://www.pathwaychurch.life/what-we-believe
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people (staff and/or volunteers) with clarity and care
  • Strong execution skills: planning, organizing, improving systems, and follow-through

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Experience leading larger ministries and/or high-volume weekend environments
  • Track record building volunteer pipelines and developing volunteer leaders
  • Ministry training/credentialing consistent with a pastor-track role

Tip: If you haven’t led a “large church” kids ministry but you’ve delivered strong outcomes (team growth, better systems, stronger volunteer retention), apply and show transferable results.
