Job description

Job Title: IT Consultant

Location: Bristol, RI (On-site at various Town facilities and remote as needed)

Duration: Long Term Contract

Job Summary:

The IT Consultant provides strategic guidance and technical leadership to the Town of Bristol, supporting budgeting, planning, and IT optimization. This role involves recommending technology solutions, consolidating equipment and software, and coordinating IT support across departments to enhance efficiency and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and organizational leadership for IT-related issues during annual budget preparation.
  • Recommend future purchasing and technology needs for Town departments.
  • Identify cost savings and efficiencies through consolidation of equipment and software (e.g., standardizing platforms across departments).
  • Coordinate IT and communication-related support across Town facilities.
  • Conduct one-on-one or group training sessions on standard applications, maintenance, and user rights.
  • Assist with the procurement and installation of new servers, software, and hardware.
  • Develop procedures and documentation for IT processes and disaster recovery.
  • Provide consultation via phone, email, or on-site as requested by Town personnel.
  • Ensure alignment with Town goals and compliance with CJIS and HIPAA requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in IT consulting or strategic IT planning.
  • Experience with public sector IT systems and compliance (CJIS, HIPAA).
  • Familiarity with public safety software (e.g., IMC, CSI Technology CAD) and municipal systems (e.g., Tyler-Munis, ViewPoint Cloud).
  • Certifications (preferred):
  • ITIL Foundation or Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or equivalent.
  • Skills:
  • Strong strategic planning and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and training abilities for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to analyze IT systems for cost-saving opportunities.
  • Availability: Must be available for on-site and remote consultations during regular business hours and as needed for strategic planning.
