SUMMARY
JOB DESCRIPTION
This is a student position responsible for assisting in the operations and activities of a department or a departmental project, program, or function.
QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.
No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.
Position requires lifting up to 50 lbs and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Prepares soil for planning using hand tools and farm machinery.
  2. Plants, cultivates, and harvests crops.
  3. Feeds, waters, and monitors health of livestock and poultry.
  4. Operates and maintains farm machinery and equipment.
  5. Applies fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides to crops and fields.
  6. Repairs fences, outbuildings, and other farm structures.
  7. Assists in the delivery and nurturing of livestock and poultry.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESThe individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  1. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
  2. Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  3. Ability to safely operate tools, machinery, and equipment.
  4. Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANT
Candidates must be available to work weekends on a rotation basis.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
