Job Title: Door Estimator/Division 8 & 10 Exemption Status: Exempt/Professional

Report to: Supervisor Date Revised: August 2026

Department: Project Dept.

Salary: TBD as per qualification

Primary Purpose:

Provide service and serve many major companies in South Texas. STX Door Specialties Systems, Inc. is looking for a candidate who should be able to demonstrate the ability to estimate the costs, resources, and labor needed to produce a service or product. Estimators should be able to analyze a variety of proposals and requirements to prepare cost estimates for clients, prepare reports and monitor forecast plans. Following are the abilities to be considered a suitable applicant:

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s (preferred) but not limited to
  • Construction Estimating: 2 years (required)

Qualifications/Experience:

  • MUST have previous experience as an Estimator and have a general knowledge of the industry’s materials, machines, tools, and equipment.
  • MUST be able to take jobs from start to finish; responsible for comprehensive take-offs, proposals, submitting quotes, ordering, and working closely with various general contractors, project managers, and superintendents. The job will require communication with our installers and technicians throughout the projects.
  • Have broad experience in Door Business: Familiar with all aspects of commercial doors and frames and have a working knowledge of all kinds of finished hardware, including their applications.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Door/hardware industry experience preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and related systems
  • QuickBooks
  • Specworks
  • Office and phone skills
  • Proficient with Division 8 and 10 products including hollow metal, wood doors, and hardware, restroom accessories, toilet partitions preferred
  • Detail oriented
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting plans and specifications
  • Adept in time management
  • Experience with scheduling
  • Compensation based on experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Collect different quotes from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.

2. Analyze company data, monitor budgets and prices using software packages.

3. Create estimates for customers and manage job sequences.

4. Review and assess cost estimates.

5. Identify labor, material, costs, and time requirements by researching proposals, blueprints, and any related documents.

6. Prepare detailed cost estimate reports.

7. Oversee the different stages of a company project to ensure that expenses follow the forecast plan.

8. Demonstrates strong communication and phone skills.

9. Demonstrate professional and friendly customer service.

10. Dependable, trustworthy, and detail oriented.

11. Perform general office duties and tasks (including filing, emails/ faxes, etc.).

12. Order and track products and materials arriving at job sites.

13. Document daily events, logs, and paperwork for each job.

14. Help promote a sage work area and a focus on safety for employees.

15. Maintain accurate records and appropriate filing systems.

16. Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours when needed.

17. Other duties and special projects assigned.
