Job description

Who We AreWho You Are

Cambridge Design Partnership is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer II to join our growing US team.

This role is suited to an early-career engineer with around 2-5 years of relevant experience who is ready to take ownership of defined engineering workstreams, contribute to multidisciplinary product development projects, and continue building the skills needed to become a rounded product development consultant.

You will work across sectors including medtech, life sciences, drug delivery and consumer. Projects may span early concept generation, prototyping, engineering development, testing, design for manufacture, and transfer into production.

We are looking for someone who can combine strong mechanical design fundamentals with practical hands-on engineering, clear communication, and the ability to work well with clients and multidisciplinary teams. Regular on-site presence is required, with a minimum expectation of three days per week in the office.

What You'll Do
  • Develop mechanical design solutions for new products, subsystems, mechanisms, assemblies, test rigs, and prototypes.
  • Create robust 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, tolerance schemes, and technical documentation.
  • Apply sound engineering judgement to balance performance, usability, manufacturability, reliability, cost, and schedule.
  • Support concept development, feasibility studies, prototyping, design iteration, and engineering verification activities.
  • Apply DFM/DFA principles to develop practical designs that can be manufactured, assembled, tested, and scaled.
  • Contribute to the selection of materials, components, manufacturing processes, and suppliers.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues through analysis, prototyping, testing, and structured problem solving.

Project Contribution and Ownership

  • Take ownership of defined work packages within larger product development programs.
  • Plan and manage your own workload, communicate progress clearly, and flag risks or issues early.
  • Support project documentation, design reviews, risk management activities, and technical decision-making.

Prototyping, Testing, and Build Support

  • Support hands-on prototype builds, test setup, troubleshooting, and design iteration.
  • Develop practical test fixtures, assembly aids, and experimental rigs where needed.
  • Capture test results, summarize findings, and use evidence to guide design decisions.
  • Work with internal workshops, external suppliers, and manufacturing partners to produce parts and assemblies.

Client and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support sales efforts by writing proposals, defining budgets, and scoping work packages.
  • Communicate technical work clearly to internal teams and, where appropriate, external clients.
  • Present design concepts, engineering rationale, test findings, and recommendations in a clear and professional way.
  • Build confidence in working directly with clients while being supported by more senior team members.
What You Bring

Experience and Education

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Typically 2-5 years of relevant experience in product development, mechanical design, engineering consultancy, medical devices, or a related field.

Maintain, embed and support CDP culture and values

  • Real relationships: Respect, honesty, openness, and warmth underpin all our interactions.
  • Purposeful collaboration: Achieving the extraordinary when we work together.
  • Seeking perspectives: Diversity and questioning lead to ingenuity and creativity.
  • Building on evidence: Insight and data guide our decisions and trajectory.
  • Bold excellence: Thriving given the freedom to exceed expectations.
What We Offer

Salary Range: $85k-100k,

  • Competitive paid time off
  • Complimentary snacks
  • Ergonomic workstations
  • Hybrid work schedule
  • Yearly bonus
  • Wellness room/alternative work environments
