The College of Education at the University of Iowa is making a major investment in addressing critical mental health needs. The Department of Counselor Education is committed to advancing mental health services statewide, with particular attention to rural communities. We are seeking a dedicated and student-centered clinical faculty member to help lead our growing Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) MA Program.

Position
The Department of Counselor Education at the University of Iowa invites applications for an open rank clinical-track, academic year faculty position in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. Starting date for the successful candidate is negotiable, but no later than August 18, 2027, ahead of the Fall 2027 semester.

We seek an individual with demonstrated excellence in teaching, clinical supervision, and program leadership, as well as experience relevant to clinical mental health counseling, rural communities, and counselor education.

This individual should have demonstrated:
a.) Skills in effective teaching and clinical supervision.
b.) Skills as an effective instructor at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
c.) Leadership experience, e.g., as a program coordinator in clinical mental health counseling or counselor education
d.) A strong record of professional service that advances the research, training, and clinical work intended to improve and support individual's mental health including those in rural communities.
e.) Experience collaborating with colleagues and communities from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.

The successful candidate will serve as a core faculty member and Program Coordinator for our Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. This individual may also join in partnership with the Scanlan Center for School Mental Health. The program, following College of Education trends, has strong department, college, university, and clinical community support, and is committed to an environment that values diversity and collegiality. The preferred candidate will have a strong commitment to student-centered practice and will be experienced in implementation of CACREP accreditation standards in mental health counselor education.

Responsibilities
a.) Being a core faculty member in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling MA program,
b.) Teaching courses, in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling MA program, in areas consistent with the candidate's interests and department needs,
c.) Serve as program coordinator for the Clinical Mental Health MA program,
d.) Engage in a professional agenda that advances the research, training, or clinical work intended to improve the lives of individuals in need of clinical mental health services,
e.) Support program initiatives that enhance the instructional and clinical experiences of our CMHC students,
f.) Advising students,
g.)Engage in professional, university, collegiate, and departmental service that advances the research, training, and clinical work intended to improve the lives of individuals in need of clinical mental health services

Education Requirement:

Prospective candidates must have:
An earned doctorate in Counseling from a CACREP accredited program,
OR
An earned doctorate in a closely related field with a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health from a Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) accredited program.

Required Qualifications:

1. Concentration or specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling,
2. Experience in teaching undergraduate/graduate courses,
3. Experience in program leadership, (e.g., curriculum coordination, program administration)
4. Experience in providing clinical supervision reflective of CACREP standards and practices,
5. Demonstrated commitment to create positive relationships with community counseling providers including school settings,
6. Be a National Certified Counselor, NCC, or certification eligible,
7. Experience contributing to a welcoming and respectful academic environment

Desirable Qualifications:

1. Eligible for LMHC in the State of Iowa,
2. Established Teaching, Research, and Service record reflective of expected requirements for appointment at the rank of Clinical Associate or Clinical Full Professor, respectively,
3. Experience in the practice of clinical mental health counselor,
4. Be LMHC, LPC or eligible for counselor licensure,
5. Experience teaching in a CACREP accredited graduate program,
