Civil Construction Inspector - Temporary/Seasonal

As our Civil Construction Inspector (Temporary/Seasonal) for our Construction Services Team in the Seattle and Tacoma area, you'll support the delivery of municipal infrastructure projects across the North End (north of Renton, through Lynnwood, and surrounding areas) and the South End (south of Renton through Olympia). In this field-focused role, you'll help ensure construction quality, safety, and compliance across a diverse portfolio of public works projects.
This is a temporary/seasonal position, expected to average approximately 40 hours per week for several months, depending on project needs.

What You'll Do
As our Civil Construction Inspector, you'll support the successful delivery of infrastructure projects - including roadways, water mains, stormwater systems, and sewer improvements - by monitoring field activities, documenting progress, and helping maintain alignment with plans, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Construction Observation & Compliance Perform daily site observations to verify contractor work aligns with project plans, specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Documentation & Reporting Maintain accurate daily reports, field measurements, and quantity calculations to support field records and progress payments.
  • Materials Testing & Verification Coordinate and monitor material sampling and testing to confirm compliance with project requirements.
  • Issue Identification & Resolution Identify and document changed conditions, communicate with the project team, and support resolution of field and contract-related challenges.
  • Safety Oversight Support enforcement of safety standards and project-specific safety plans on active construction sites.
  • Coordination & Communication Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders to address technical issues and resolve field conflicts.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ year of construction observation or related experience on civil infrastructure projects (roadways, water mains, stormwater systems, and sewer improvements); candidates with 10+ years of experience may be considered for a Senior Construction Inspector role
  • Basic math skills (such as calculation of areas, volumes, and field measurement quantities, etc.) and proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications
  • Valid driver's license with a responsible driving record and ability to travel to job sites
  • Willingness to work variable hours, including occasional nights, weekends, or extended hours as needed
  • Ability to work on-site in active construction environments, including walking uneven surfaces, climbing, and exposure to varying site conditions
  • Familiarity with WSDOT Standard Specifications and WSDOT Standard Plans is a plus
  • APWA Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII) is a plus

Compensation & Benefits
  • Compensation: $34.00 - $55.00/hour (commensurate with experience)
