Job description


Job Summary:
Onsemi is seeking an Automation Technician - AMHS (Night 2 Shift) for the Hopewell Junction site. This role supports the operation, maintenance, and reliability of Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS) within a semiconductor manufacturing environment.
The Automation Technician is responsible for ensuring continuous material flow by maintaining and troubleshooting automated transport systems, including FOUP handling, conveyors, stockers, and overhead hoist transport (OHT) equipment. This position plays a critical role in minimizing downtime and supporting overall factory throughput.
The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, and experienced in working with automated systems in a high-tech manufacturing setting. Success in this role requires a strong commitment to safety, 5S principles, and operational excellence, along with the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, 24/7 production environment.
Schedule
  • N2 Shift: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, every other Saturday 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM

  • Sign-on Bonus: $5000

Responsibilities
MHS Equipment Support
  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on AMHS equipment (e.g., conveyors, OHT systems, stockers, sorters, and FOUP transport systems)

  • Respond to equipment alarms and resolve faults to minimize downtime

  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities per SOPs

Operational Support
  • Monitor system performance and ensure continuous flow of materials (FOUPs) across the fab

  • Support recovery from system interruptions and perform system restarts

  • Assist with equipment calibration, adjustments, and upgrades

Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all safety protocols, including proper PPE usage and hazard identification

  • Ensure compliance with cleanroom and semiconductor manufacturing standards

Documentation & Systems
  • Accurately log maintenance activities, equipment status, and issues in tracking systems

  • Utilize factory systems such as:

  • Citrix (application access)

  • WSPC (process control systems)

  • Agile PLM (documentation)

  • Learning+ / SumTotal (training & compliance)

Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and escalate recurring equipment issues

  • Partner with engineering teams to drive equipment reliability improvements

  • Support lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives

Coordination & Teamwork
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and Control Center teams

  • Communicate system status and shift handoffs clearly

Qualifications
Requirements:
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Ability to work 12-hour night shifts, including weekends/holidays as needed

  • Basic knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical systems

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn factory systems

  • Ability to lift and handle components (up to 35 lbs)

Preferred
  • Experience with AMHS systems in semiconductor manufacturing

  • Familiarity with OHT, conveyors, stockers, or robotics systems

  • Experience in automation, robotics, or industrial maintenance

  • Knowledge of PLCs, sensors, and control systems

  • Experience with 5S, Lean, or continuous improvement practices

Employees in this role may be required to participate in the site Emergency Response Brigade and support emergency preparedness activities. Participation includes maintaining required training, certifications, and response readiness in accordance with site policies and business needs.
Hourly: onsemi is excited to share the base salary range for this position is $23.51 to $41.06 exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. Successful candidates for this position will have:
• An AAT/AAS degree or Certificate of Completion in Electronics, electromechanical, semiconductor technology, or another technical program. Applicable experience may be substituted for a degree. Semiconductor maintenance experience required.
• Capable of standing for at least 75% of the time during any shift.
• The technician must have demonstrated mechanical aptitude; this is required to learn/perform assigned maintenance tasks.
• Ability to apply technical knowledge, training, and procedure comprehension to perform routine and sustaining maintenance on semiconductor manufacturing equipment in accordance with established procedures/specifications.
• Ability to comprehend and solve basic electronics, mechanical, and mathematics problems.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal format.
• Ability to work in a team environment. Individuals must be self-motivated and able to interface effectively with other groups.
• Ability to certify to respirator, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), Arsenic and Hazardous Materials handling.
• Capable of working with and around chemicals (safety training is provided).
• Remain as shift flexible as possible as there exists the chance of being moved from the nights to the day shift (or vice versa), also must be able to work weekends as well as weekdays.
• Ability to lift to 50 lbs. repetitively
• Organization skills and the ability to prioritize one's work.
