They ensure that communication infrastructure remains operational outside of regular business hours, addressing issues and performing maintenance to minimize downtime. These engineers often work on-call, remotely, or onsite, and require expertise in Cisco technologies, networking, and VoIP systems.

What are the typical responsibilities of a Weekend Cisco Collaboration Engineer, and how does the work schedule impact team collaboration?

As a Weekend Cisco Collaboration Engineer, your primary responsibilities include monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting Cisco collaboration systems such as Unified Communications Manager, Jabber, and Webex during weekend shifts. You will regularly handle incident response, perform system updates, and ensure seamless communication services for end users. Working weekends often requires clear documentation and handovers to weekday teams, so strong communication and collaboration skills are essential. The role may also involve participating in remote meetings or on-call rotations to coordinate with other engineers and support staff.

Job description

TECHNOLOGIST
FULL TIME, EXEMPT
HYBRID
About us:
At REDCOM, our mission is to design the most reliable and innovative communications solutions for customers that span all branches of the U.S. military, government agencies, public safety organizations, and telecom service providers. After more than 45 years in business, we are still in growth mode. We're looking for a dynamic Technologist to drive near-term opportunity conversion and enhance the support experience for our customers and internal teams.
OPPORTUNITY AT A GLANCE:
Are you a scrappy, fast-moving technical problem solver who thrives at the intersection of customer needs and emerging technology? Unlike traditional, long-term engineering roles, our group operates with a customer- and opportunity-driven mindset. We are a high-impact, reactionary team focused on finding immediate solutions to close deals using integration over development, targeting horizons of less than 18 months.
As a Technologist, you will bridge the gap between our existing product suite and immediate customer demands. You will be responsible for exploring emerging tech, building rapid proofs of concept, executing interoperability testing, and providing hands-on implementation support to accelerate revenue and delight customers.
Essential Functions
  • Rapid Proofs of Concept: Design, build, and demonstrate rapid Proof of Concept (PoC) solutions to validate feasibility and secure short-term business opportunities.
  • Interoperability & Integration: Conduct testing to integrate third-party technologies and emerging trends with our existing product ecosystem.
  • Technical Innovation: Find creative, immediate ways to stretch and adapt current product capabilities to meet urgent customer requirements without requiring deep-cycle core software development.
  • Gap Analysis: Evaluate existing product features against the technical requirements of incoming deals to identify gaps and map out integration-based workarounds.
  • Emerging Tech Exploration: Continuously monitor and apply near-term technology trends that can be leveraged to close active or upcoming deals within an 18-month window.
  • Implementation & Installation: Provide hands-on installation services and technical implementation support directly to customers and internal deployment teams.
  • Knowledge Transfer: Develop and deliver internal training materials to upskill sales, engineering, and support teams on newly integrated solutions and capabilities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the technical "connective tissue" between Sales, Product Management, and Core Engineering to accelerate opportunity conversion and increase organizational efficiency.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS THAT ARE REQUIRED TO FULFILL THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 3-5+ years of experience in a highly technical, customer-facing, or fast-paced role (e.g., Solutions Architect, Solutions Engineer, Systems Integrator, or Technical Consultant).
  • Proven track record of connecting disparate systems via APIs, scripting, Lua, or middleware solutions rather than building software from scratch.
  • Networking & Communications: Deep expertise in IP/cloud networking, core protocols (TCP/UDP, RTP, OSPF, HSRP), telecom/signaling protocols (SIP, H.323, ISUP), and legacy/RF technologies, with working knowledge of XMPP and SBCs.
  • Platforms, Infrastructure & Tools: Hands-on experience with Unified Communications platforms (Cisco IOS/CUCM), SBC management (Acme Packet, Sonus), hypervisors (VMware vSphere, VirtualBox), containers (Docker, Kubernetes), Windows/UNIX OS, and relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Documentation & Productivity: Proficient in creating technical diagrams and topologies with AutoCAD and Visio, plus strong command of Microsoft 365 tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) for documentation and collaboration.
  • Professional Skills: Creative problem-solver, action-oriented mindset in fast-paced, shifting environments; exceptional diagnostic, troubleshooting, and analytical skills; ability to translate complex technical integrations into clear business value.

OTHER DUTIES:
Complete special projects and perform other duties as necessary.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
REDCOM is quite unique in that all of our engineering, manufacturing, sales, support, and marketing teams are based out of our headquarters in Victor, NY.
Must be available to travel independently, both domestically and internationally, as required. Travel is expected to be minimal but required based on customer demand and support.
Must be available to answer customer calls on a rotational basis, 24/7, for 7 days at a time.
Must be available to assist the on-call person with answering customer calls 24/7, 365 days a year, except during approved time off
Must be eligible to obtain secret-level clearance, as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to, and for extended periods of time, stand, reach, speak, hear, have visual acuity, and have manual dexterity (use of fingers for fine activities) due to the nature of the complex array of equipment and products.
Must be able to carry up to 50 pounds including the lifting and unpacking of demo equipment kits, cables, and other hardware.
ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT:
No direct reports, but will be required to interact with peers and leadership.
Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change based on business needs.
