The Role
The Senior Unified Communications Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for the global architecture, design, and reliability of Unified Communications services and supporting infrastructure across on-prem, hybrid, and cloud environments. This role owns the technical direction of core UC platforms, including Cisco collaboration technologies and cloud-based services such as Microsoft Teams, Cisco WebEx, and Zoom, ensuring these mission-critical services meet extremely high availability, performance, and consistency standards worldwide. Partnering closely with Network, Infrastructure, Audio Visual, Security, and Service Desk teams, this position serves as a senior escalation point, leads architectural decisions, and supports global deployments and refresh initiatives. The role also contributes to structured delivery by developing and owning Features and user stories within an Agile workflow, translating business and technical requirements into scalable, resilient UC solutions.
Responsibilities
  • Own and define the global architecture for Unified Communications services and supporting infrastructure across on-prem, hybrid, and cloud-based environments.
  • Design, deploy, and support enterprise-scale Unified Communications platforms with a focus on Cisco collaboration technologies and cloud-based UC services, including CUCM, Unity Connection, E911, UCCX, Expressway, Webex, Cisco Jabber, Microsoft Teams, Zoon, Cisco Cube, Ribbon SBC, and Cisco RoomOS endpoints.
  • Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex UC issues across global environments, including call routing, signaling, media quality, endpoint behavior, and service availability.
  • Lead the integration and coexistence of cloud UC platforms (Microsoft Teams, Zoon, Webex) with on-prem Cisco infrastructure at global scale.
  • Partner closely with Network and Infrastructure teams to ensure UC architecture is aligned with LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, cloud networking, QoS, firewall, and identity standards.
  • Lead UC technical efforts for new office builds, renovations, and lifecycle refresh initiatives, ensuring adherence to global architecture and standards.
  • Develop, own, and manage Features and user stories as part of an Agile delivery model, translating business and technical requirements into actionable work for engineering and delivery teams
  • Define, maintain, and enforce global UC standards, reference architectures, and deployment models
  • Evaluate new technologies, firmware releases, and cloud feature updates; provide architectural recommendations and lead controlled global rollouts.
  • Collaborate with AV, Service Desk, Security, Real Estate, Facilities, and external vendors to deliver a consistent global collaboration experience.
  • Develop and maintain architectural documentation, technical standards, and operational runbooks to support scalable and resilient UC services.

Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience in Unified Communications engineering within a large enterprise or global environment.
  • CCNA Collaboration
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Teams Administrator Associate
  • Demonstrated experience owning or contributing to the global architecture of UC services and supporting infrastructure.
  • Deep hands-on expertise with Cisco UC platforms, including CUCM, Unity Connection, E911, UCCX, Expressway, Zoom, Webex, Cisco Jabber, and Cisco RoomOS devices.
  • Strong experience supporting cloud-based UC platforms, including Microsoft Teams, in hybrid enterprise environments.
  • Strong networking fundamentals with proven experience designing and supporting real-time communications across complex global networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot SIP signaling, call routing, media flow, latency, jitter, and packet loss across on-prem and cloud services.
  • Experience integrating UC platforms with enterprise identity, security, and network infrastructure.
  • Ability to operate independently, provide architectural guidance, and influence technical direction across teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate architectural decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Skills
  • Cisco certifications such as CCNP Collaboration, CCIE Collaboration, or equivalent.
  • Microsoft certifications related to Microsoft Teams or cloud collaboration platforms.
  • Experience leading or supporting global UC migrations, coexistence strategies, or platform transitions.
  • Familiarity with UC monitoring, analytics, and management platforms.
  • Experience supporting conference rooms and collaboration endpoints at global scale.
  • Prior experience working closely with Networking, Audio Visual or Workplace Technology teams.
  • Experience contributing to long-term UC roadmap planning and service strategy
  • Experience working within an Agile framework, including developing Features and user stories and managing work through Jira or similar tools.

Location
This is a hybrid role based out of our Nashville office.
Compensation
The annual base salary for this position is in the range of $142,000 to $168,000. This position also is eligible for benefits and discretionary bonus. Ultimately, the salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, business sector, and geographic location, among other criteria.
