Job description


Division/Department: Human Services - Medical Services
Location: Min No Aya Win Human Services Center & Center for American Indian Resources- On Site
Reports To: Director - Medical
Probationary Period: 6 months/180 days
FLSA Status: Exempt (Salaried)
Classification: Child-Related CA
Driver's License: Level 2- Driver's License Required.
Rate of Pay: Dependent on Qualifications (DOQ)
Bonus: $25,000 with a 3-year commitment.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct medical care in clinic and inpatient treatment at Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet, Aspirus St. Lukes in Duluth, FDL Assisted Living Residence, and nursing homes to patients eligible for care.
  • Patient care over the entire lifespan, from newborns, children, adolescents, adults, obstetrical patients and elders.
  • Physician core competencies include systems-based practice, patient safety and quality improvement, care of the acutely ill patient, care of patients with chronic illness, health promotion and wellness, ongoing care of patients with undifferentiated health concerns, provide procedural care within the scope of training.
  • Practices patient centered care and evidence-based medicine.
  • Record all information gathered and decisions made in the patient's medical record regarding their health status, treatments, and medications prescribed.
  • Assist in the development of appropriate educational materials pertaining to specific health issues.
  • Work with other members of the healthcare team as needed in the carrying out of prescribed duties.
  • Provide on-call coverage usually one evening every 1-2 weeks and one weekend every other month.
  • Serve on CQI committees as requested.
  • Provide administrative back up when the Medical Director is on leave when directed by the Director - Medical.
  • Appropriate/Professional work attire is required.
  • Must attend all mandatory department trainings.
  • Ensures confidentiality of financial records and all records for employees and/or clients.
  • Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
  • Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
  • Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
  • Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary

Qualifications
  • Valid Driver's License issued in the US is required.
  • Driving eligibility determined by FDL approved guidelines.
  • MD or DO with Minnesota license is required.
  • Graduate of approved Family Practice Residency, or five years' experience in family practice setting is required.
  • Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and continued certification while employed.
  • Knowledge of computer software programs including Microsoft Programs, the EMR for the Medical Clinic and other electronic documents.
  • Knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft 365 is required.
  • Knowledge of Native American communities, culture, customs, and beliefs is preferred.
  • Experience working with Native Americans clients, communities and ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
  • Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
  • Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation's Personnel Policies.
  • Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.
  • Subject to immunization review and submitted proof of required vaccinations.
  • Some travel is required.
