Weekend Car T Cell Therapy information

What is a Weekend CAR T Cell Therapy specialist?

A Weekend CAR T Cell Therapy specialist is a healthcare professional, often a nurse or technician, who is responsible for administering and monitoring CAR T cell therapy treatments during weekends. CAR T cell therapy is an advanced cancer treatment that uses genetically modified T cells to target and destroy cancer cells. Specialists working weekend shifts ensure that patients receive timely care and monitoring, as the therapy involves continuous observation for potential side effects. Their role includes preparing treatment, managing patient symptoms, and collaborating with oncologists to ensure patient safety.

What are some unique challenges faced by Weekend CAR T Cell Therapy nurses compared to those working weekday shifts?

Weekend CAR T Cell Therapy nurses often handle a higher level of autonomy due to reduced onsite staffing and support services during weekends. They must be adept at managing urgent situations and collaborating efficiently with on-call physicians and remote specialists. Additionally, weekend nurses are responsible for closely monitoring patients for unique and sometimes acute side effects of CAR T therapy, such as cytokine release syndrome or neurotoxicity, and must be prepared to implement rapid interventions. This role requires strong communication, excellent clinical judgment, and the ability to adapt to a dynamic, sometimes unpredictable work environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend CAR T Cell Therapy nurse, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend CAR T Cell Therapy Nurse, you need a solid background in oncology nursing, experience with immunotherapies, and an active RN license. Familiarity with CAR T-cell protocols, infusion pumps, and EHR systems is essential, along with certifications such as OCN or BLS. Excellent critical thinking, emotional resilience, and strong patient communication skills help nurses manage complex cases and provide compassionate care during challenging treatments. These competencies are crucial for ensuring safe, effective therapy administration and supporting patients through intensive, potentially life-threatening procedures.

What is the difference between Weekend Car T Cell Therapy vs Weekend Car Technician?

AspectWeekend Car T Cell TherapyWeekend Car Technician
CredentialsMedical certifications, immunology trainingAutomotive repair certifications, technical training
Work EnvironmentHospitals, research labsAuto repair shops, dealerships
IndustryHealthcare, biotechAutomotive, service industry

Weekend Car T Cell Therapy involves medical procedures using advanced immunotherapy techniques, requiring specialized healthcare credentials. In contrast, Weekend Car Technicians focus on vehicle repairs and maintenance, requiring automotive certifications. Both roles operate on weekends but serve different industries and skill sets, making them distinct career paths.

Job description

The Cell Therapy department within Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) is seeking a motivated scientist to help develop novel cell therapies for patients with intractable diseases.
We are looking for a highly collaborative, detail-oriented scientist with deep expertise in T cell biology and a strong foundation in primary T cell culture, multiparameter flow cytometry and immune cell engineering. The successful candidate will bring scientific rigor, creativity and a resourceful approach to solving complex biological and technical problems.
This individual will work across diverse scientific and functional teams to advance Genentech's cell therapy pipeline. The position reports to a Principal Scientist and will contribute to the scientific direction, collaborative culture and continued growth of the Cell Therapy department.
The Opportunity
  • Culture and engineer primary T cells and other relevant cell types.
  • Develop and apply multiparameter flow cytometry assays to characterize T cell identity, differentiation state, activation, function, and fitness.
  • Evaluate engineered T cells using appropriate phenotypic and functional assays, including proliferation, cytokine production, cytotoxicity and persistence-related measurements.
  • Analyze complex datasets, draw incisive conclusions and use results to guide subsequent experimental strategy.
  • Collaborate effectively with research, translational, computational, process development and other partner groups across and outside gRED.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate experimental records using electronic laboratory systems.
  • Communicate findings clearly through written reports, data packages and presentations to project teams and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to scientific and strategic planning for the Cell Therapy department and Genentech's broader cell therapy pipeline.

Who You Are
  • PhD, MD, DVM or equivalent degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Extensive hands-on experience with primary T cell isolation, activation, culture, expansion and phenotypic characterization.
  • Deep knowledge of T cell biology, including development, differentiation, effector function, exhaustion, memory and survival.
  • Advanced experience in multiparameter flow cytometry, including panel design, selection of appropriate controls, assay optimization, data analysis and biological interpretation.
  • Experience engineering primary immune cells using viral and non-viral gene delivery methods.
  • Experience developing and executing cell-based functional assays relevant to T cell biology or cell therapy.
  • Demonstrated ability to design rigorous experiments, troubleshoot complex technical problems and interpret multidimensional datasets.
  • A record of scientific, technical or process improvement contributions in a relevant field, demonstrated through publications, patents, regulatory submissions or meaningful contributions to therapeutic programs.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, including the ability to document, present and discuss results with multidisciplinary audiences.
  • A collaborative mindset and demonstrated ability to advance shared objectives across project teams.
  • A strong work ethic grounded in scientific curiosity, rigor, attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality research.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of human T cell development, lineage specification or thymic biology.
  • Familiarity with high-dimensional or spectral flow cytometry and associated analysis tools.
  • Experience developing CAR-T, TCR-T or other engineered T cell therapies.
  • Knowledge of CAR design, vector biology, T cell manufacturing or critical quality attributes relevant to engineered T-cell products.
  • Experience with CRISPR-based or other genome-engineering technologies in primary T cells.
  • Experience culturing and engineering human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).
  • Experience differentiating iPSCs or hematopoietic progenitors toward immune or T-cell lineages.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary cell therapy discovery or development teams.
  • Familiarity with in vivo models of liquid and solid tumors
