In this part-time position, you track spending and receipts for a company, handle invoicing, create financial statements, reconcile expenses and income, and perform accounting tasks using spreadsheets or bookkeeping software such as Intuit Quickbooks. Your responsibilities vary depending on the needs of your clients or employer. If you work for a business, you may perform the bookkeeping tasks for the entire previous week on the weekend. If you work for a company that operates on Saturday and Sunday, you perform daily bookkeeping duties for those two days.

The main difference between a Weekend Bookkeeper and a Part-Time Bookkeeper lies in their work schedule. Weekend Bookkeepers primarily work on weekends, while Part-Time Bookkeepers have flexible hours that may include weekdays. Both roles often require similar credentials and are used in small business environments. The choice depends on whether the employer needs weekend-only support or more flexible part-time coverage.

Is AI replacing bookkeepers?

AI is automating certain tasks in bookkeeping, such as data entry and reconciliation, which can increase efficiency. However, human bookkeepers are still essential for complex financial analysis, decision-making, and ensuring accuracy, especially in small businesses or specialized accounting environments.

What hourly rate should a bookkeeper charge?

The hourly rate for a weekend bookkeeper typically ranges from $20 to $50, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of the work. Certified bookkeepers or those with specialized skills may charge higher rates, especially for short-term or part-time roles scheduled on weekends.

What are the typical responsibilities and workflow for a Weekend Bookkeeper, and how does the role interact with other team members?

As a Weekend Bookkeeper, your primary responsibilities include recording financial transactions, reconciling accounts, processing invoices, and preparing basic financial reports, all typically within a compressed weekend schedule. You may also handle payroll, manage petty cash, and ensure that records are up to date for the start of the business week. Collaboration often involves communicating with managers, accountants, or other staff via email or shared accounting software to resolve discrepancies or clarify entries. While much of the work is independent, timely updates and clear documentation are essential to keep the broader finance team informed and ensure a smooth handoff.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A weekend bookkeeper can earn around $10,000 a month by managing financial records for multiple clients, often working flexible hours and using accounting software. Success in this role depends on experience, accuracy, and building a strong client base, with some individuals earning high income without formal degrees.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Weekend Bookkeeper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Weekend Bookkeeper, you need strong numerical accuracy, attention to detail, and foundational knowledge of accounting principles, often supported by a relevant degree or bookkeeping certification. Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or Sage, and proficiency in spreadsheet tools like Microsoft Excel are typically expected. Excellent organizational skills, reliability, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly help set standout professionals apart in this role. These competencies ensure accurate financial records, timely reporting, and smooth financial operations during weekend shifts.

What do bookkeepers charge an hour?

Bookkeepers typically charge between $20 and $50 per hour, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of the work. Freelance or small business bookkeepers may have variable rates, while those working for firms often follow standard hourly fees. Certifications and proficiency with accounting software can also influence rates.

What are weekend bookkeepers?

Weekend bookkeepers are accounting professionals who handle financial record-keeping, reconciliation, and related tasks specifically on weekends. They ensure that a business’s financial transactions are accurately recorded, invoices are processed, and accounts are balanced, even outside of standard business hours. This role is especially useful for businesses that operate seven days a week or require ongoing financial oversight. Weekend bookkeepers help organizations maintain up-to-date financial records and prepare for regular reporting or audits.

Job description

Bookkeeper / Accounting Lead – Multi-Entity Real Estate
Overview
We’re hiring a Senior Bookkeeper / Accounting Lead to handle the day-to-day accounting for a growing real estate platform with approximately 25 commercial properties.
This role is focused on keeping the books clean, accurate, and current across multiple entities. You’ll own core accounting functions—AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations, and monthly reporting—while providing light support to property-level financial tracking.
This is not a property management role. It’s a numbers-first position for someone who takes pride in organization, accuracy, and consistency.
What You’ll Be Responsible For:
Day-to-Day Accounting:
  • Enter and code vendor bills, process payments, and manage AP workflow.
  • Track incoming payments, monitor receivables, and follow up on collections.
  • Maintain general ledgers across multiple entities.
  • Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Process payroll and maintain payroll records.
  • Keep financials clean, categorized, and up to date at all times.

Monthly Close & Reporting:
  • Prepare monthly:
    • Profit & Loss statements.
    • Balance Sheets.
  • Assist with closing out each month in a timely manner.
  • Ensure financials are accurate and ready for ownership review.
  • Maintain organized digital records and supporting documentation.

Portfolio Support (Secondary Focus):
  • Track rent payments and tenant balances.
  • Assist with billing and basic lease-related entries.
  • Support CAM tracking and reconciliations when needed.
  • Coordinate with property management on tenant accounts.

Administrative & Financial Support:
  • Track recurring expenses and ensure timely payments.
  • Monitor key items like insurance, taxes, and vendor obligations.
  • Organize records for CPA and year-end tax preparation.
  • Assist with basic reporting requests from ownership.

What We’re Looking For:
Experience:
  • 3+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
  • Experience managing multiple accounts or entities.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • AP / AR
    • Reconciliations
    • General ledger structure

Nice to Have (Not Required):
  • Real estate or property management experience.
  • Familiarity with tenant billing or CAM.
  • Experience working in a small team or entrepreneurial environment.

Systems & Tools:
  • QuickBooks (required).
  • Excel / Google Sheets.
  • Payroll systems.
  • Property management software (helpful but not required.)

Who You Are:
  • Detail-oriented to a fault—you catch things others miss.
  • Consistent and reliable with follow-through.
  • Comfortable working independently.
  • Organized and able to manage multiple moving pieces.
  • Prefer clear structure and take pride in clean, accurate work.

Why This Role Works:
  • Clear expectations and consistent workflow.
  • Stable, long-term position with a growing company.
  • Opportunity to take ownership of accounting processes.
  • Exposure to real estate without needing deep industry experience.

Position Scope:
You’ll be responsible for maintaining the books across a portfolio of ~25 properties and related entities, ensuring everything is accurate, organized, and up to date.
