Baker Assistant — Artisan Bakery & Café

Pay: $20–$22 per hour, based on experience
Job Type: Full-time or part-time

Schedule: Approximately 4:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.; weekend and holiday availability required

About the Position

We are seeking a reliable, hardworking, and organized Baker Assistant to support the daily production team at our artisan bakery and café in Palisades Village.

The Baker Assistant works closely with the Bread Baker and Pastry Baker to prepare, finish, package, label, display, and organize baked goods. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to build professional bakery experience and learn artisan bread and pastry production in a hands-on environment.

Professional baking experience is desirable, but we are willing to train a dependable candidate who demonstrates a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and genuine interest in baking.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Bread Baker and Pastry Baker with daily production.
  • Scale and measure ingredients according to established recipes.
  • Prepare sheet pans, molds, trays, racks, parchment, and production tools.
  • Portion, pan, shape, garnish, egg-wash, glaze, fill, and finish bakery products.
  • Assist with muffins, scones, cookies, bars, rolls, pastries, breads, cakes, and other products.
  • Organize baked goods on cooling racks and monitor cooling times.
  • Package, label, date, rotate, and store finished products correctly.
  • Prepare bread and pastry products for the opening display.
  • Refill the pastry case and bread display based on sales and manager direction.
  • Help prepare ingredients and components for the following day.
  • Maintain ingredient bins, packaging supplies, labels, and production materials.
  • Retrieve ingredients from dry storage, refrigerators, freezers, and walk-in areas.
  • Assist with inventory counts and communicate ingredient or supply shortages.
  • Follow recipes, production sheets, portion guides, and instructions from bakers and managers.
  • Wash, sanitize, and properly store bowls, trays, tools, pans, mixer attachments, and equipment.
  • Keep floors, tables, racks, sinks, shelves, and production areas clean and organized.
  • Remove trash, recycling, and food waste as required.
  • Follow food-safety, sanitation, allergen-control, and workplace-safety procedures.
  • Perform additional bakery, packaging, receiving, and cleaning duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Previous bakery, restaurant, kitchen, food-production, or culinary experience is desirable.
  • Genuine interest in learning professional bread and pastry production.
  • Ability to follow instructions, recipes, measurements, and production schedules accurately.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to perform production and cleaning responsibilities.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication skills and a respectful, team-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to read and communicate in English sufficiently to follow recipes, ingredient labels, safety instructions, and production directions.
