The Senior Engineer, Automotive Product Applications is responsible for developing and promoting designs for weight and cost reduction to achieve competitive solutions for vehicle applications. Utilize strong knowledge of body design and assembly and manufacturing methods from design to function release.

Specific duties include: 

  • Utilize Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) simulations to validate and enhance design concepts, and establish strong, sustainable, and positive relationships with product development engineers at our strategic automotive customers
  • Recognize threats to steel from other materials (e.g., aluminum, composites, magnesium) and develop and recommend competitive steel solutions for future vehicle applications.
  • Analyze the impact of different materials, thickness, and shape on vehicle crashworthiness.
  • Utilize Computer Aided Design (CAD) to convert engineering designs into digital blueprints.
  • Assist in activities pertaining to prototyping, testing, validation, and correlation of body structure concepts; and
  • Engage actively in emerging areas of design and manufacturing, like additive manufacturing, digitalization, etc.
  • Use tools and technologies including: CATIA, AUTOFORM, PAM-STAMP, and HYPERWORKS.

Minimum Education Requirements

  • Master’s degree in industrial and systems engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field and 5 years related (progressive, post-baccalaureate) experience.
  • Must also have 24 months of experience with each of the following:
    •  Utilizing Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) simulations to validate and enhance steel design concepts.
    •  Detailed knowledge of automotive body design, assembly and manufacturing methods from design to function release.
    • Developing designs for weight and cost reduction to achieve competitive solutions for vehicle applications.
    • Utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD) to convert engineering designs into digital blueprints.
    • Using the following tools and technology: CATIA, AUTOFORM, PAM-STAMP, and HYPERWORKS

Location:

  • Employers will accept experience gained concurrently.
  • Full-time position located in Southfield, MI.
  • Telecommuting permitted one day per week, must live within commutable distance of Southfield, MI.
  • International and domestic travel required up to 5% of the time to client sites and ArcelorMittal facilities in the U.S., France, and Canada.
