Job description

A new imprint at Macmillan Children’s Publishing is seeking to fill an entry-level editorial position that will assist the publishing director and executive editor. The main role will be to manage administrative tasks on behalf of the managers and the imprint, with opportunities to support on select editorial projects. The imprint is focused on publishing picture books, chapter books, graphic novels, illustrated middle grade and young adult novels, and nonfiction.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide administrative support for publishing director and executive editor, including maintaining calendar and setting up meetings, shipping packages, managing the imprint library and backlist, responding to queries, liaising with other departments, taking minutes, drafting acquisitions memos and P&L’s, monitoring book production schedules and due dates, and running sales and title reports.
  • Prepare and traffic forms and requests related to all parts of the publishing process for the managers, including metadata input, contract requests, invoices, pricing requests, author/agent book orders, payment requests, Library of Congress CIP data, etc.
  • Organize materials for presentations for internal and external meetings, including sales launch and edit meetings.
  • Maintain professional and responsive communication with authors and agents.
  • Log, read, and evaluate submissions.
  • Provide editorial support such as reading, proofreading, and line editing.
  • Write copy for sales materials, tipsheets, catalogs, book jackets, online feeds, metadata, etc.
  • Contribute posts and help manage new imprint social media.

What You'll Bring:

  • Attention to detail and excellent follow through on tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proofreading or copy editing experience a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize, respond to shifting and fast-paced environment, and work independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace programs.
  • Demonstrated interest in the children’s book market.
  • Previous book publishing experience/internships a plus.
  • Previous media or entertainment experience/internships a plus.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

This role will have an annual salary of $50,000.

This position is classified as remote but is tied to our New York, NY office located at 120 Broadway. Employment is subject to New York State tax withholding under applicable regulations.
