Entity: Owensboro Health Regional Hospital | Department: Critical Care | Work Hours: 7p-7a WEO | Weekend Requirements: Every | 0.6 FTE

Job Summary:

Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a nurse. Works collaboratively with the care team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Greets and orients new patients to the hospital environment, room and unit routines. Creates positive patient experience by focusing on what matters most to the patient and visitor/s.

  • Fosters patient engagement by involving the patient and/or significant others in handoff to proactively meet patient needs and assure a safe environment through intentional rounding.

  • Provides ongoing communication through regular updates to the patient-room care board.

  • Promotes a Culture of Safety by mindfully integrating Error Prevention tools into daily routines.

  • Contributes to the assessment of patients by collecting data for review by a nurse and reports abnormal findings

  • Documents patient progress toward goals and ensures documentation is accurate, complete, specific, and timely.

  • Assists nursing staff to identify physical, psychosocial, age-specific, and cultural considerations of each patient.

  • Works with the nursing staff to provide personal care according to organizational standards and policies.

  • May monitor tube system and handle medication in accordance with medication safe handling practice.

  • May update diet orders and verifies tray deliveries meet diet requirements.

  • May electronically transfer patients in and out of the unit including facilitation of direct admit process, completion of discharge in electronic medical record (EMR), assembling paper-lite chart, and assisting with patient bed placement.

  • May arrange for patient transport services.

  • May enter work orders and obtain supplies from materials.

  • May enter staff assignments into Responder 5 System and verify staff have logged in and out of the system.

  • May perform continuous observation of EKG monitors for assigned groups of patients, while communicating to appropriate staff any changes in cardiac rhythm, including interpreting and documenting rhythm, heart rate, and appropriate measurements in the electronic medical record (EMR).

  • May run telemetry strips whenever a significant change in rhythm, rate, or conduction occurs, and/or according to policy and scan all appropriate strips into EMR per policy."

  • May determine, review, and revise alarm settings for each patient based on physician orders and/or telemetry protocols and policies. Will also troubleshoot alarms, monitors, batteries, and equipment problems.

  • Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.

  • Works under minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Education

  • High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or higher preferred

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • SRNA - Certified as State Registered Nurse Assistant in the state of Kentucky required upon hire AND

  • BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position
